I did what you said and asked the garage. It won't make much difference as most the costs are for spray painting and hours... with the bonnet and a radiator taking up chunks..

HOWEVER, as the car works and there are no leaks, the garage said they could tie the bonnet down and its legally drivable and safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great news for me! Got to wait to speak to my solicitor before I can tell my garage to do that though.

When we were shunted by a car and it was obviously the other persons fault, we were recommended to ring Helphire. They provided us with a hire car and chased the other guy - perhaps give them a call?

    New update...

Got an estimate for my car (£1000) printed... The solicitor is sending their independent assessor on thursday to see the car.

I've been to the doctors about my neck which is now on record. My mate also now has neck pain and has been to the doctors.

Apparently there is a Government charity which may help if they can't trace the driver!

Motor Insurance Bureau. They pay out in the event of an accident with an uninsured driver.

Thats the badger! Though I do have to fill in a book of forms and they do an investigation alongside the police first!

As I hit the back of him I hope they don't just write it off! I mean I couldn't avoid it at all :S

Have you retained photographs of the car, and where the stones were thrown at you and so on? Is the garage able to assess that these are 'fresh' dents made by stones?

Best of luck with it all - and to the person who said they would like to hear the other side of the story, well of course, but to me the OP sounds authentic. Stones were thrown - you just don't make that up.

I think that perhaps an older driver (including old farts like me that people say shouldn't be on the road), may have been able to avoid it - with experience you develop a 6th sense about what cars are going to do. It's defensive driving. Unfortunately you are in a high risk group - and that's probably exactly why you were picked on by the other car (/criminal/bully). Because I believe you were picked on.

    Good luck anyway,
    Jen

The second he pulled in front of me I realised and slowed but by car has no ABS and his just stopped.

    Advice needed :(
Not exactly the advice that you were after, but you need to learn about what ABS does, and does not, do!

The only thing that ABS allows you to do is to steer while you are braking. It does not make your car stop any sooner, and it certainly won't stop you from rear-ending an X5 that decides to brake-test you!

Watch http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=piX-khzHRds and go to 4 minutes precisely.
  • Exactly! With my pug when it happened, the wheels locked up and I skidded for a few seconds before hitting him!

The ABS remark was something of a joke seeing as its already happened, but in all honesty I feel with ABS I would have either stopped OR I would have been able to steer away while braking instead of locking and sliding into him...

Either way both is irellevant... It is quite possible with ABS I would have still hit him due to how close he was when he started breaking!

Jennifer_Jane, thinking back I have no doubt that I'd be more defensive spotting him in my mirror, though I'm still not sure how I would have acted.. I was driving at 40 in the left lane on a dual carrageway and he was annoyed as I wasn't speeding or pulling over.... just carrying on at 40 which wound him up! :(

My solicitor is being lovely though. Got the independant assessors coming (all arranged!) so just waiting for the docs now!!

Correct, its a fact that a none abs equipped car can stop faster in the right hands than one with abs.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
