Well you can switch off the daily scheduled scan and scan manually when required, as discussed in this thread here yesterday. The resident shield is constantly monitoring so scheduled daily scans are pointless.

I can't see/find where to turn off the daily scan!

OK I have found it.

Although it is either every day or one day a week, I can't disable totally.

I seem to remember a previous discussion on this same topic where members mentioned they thought 7.5 support and updates would be continuing until the end of 08 at least.

That used to be the case but it's now changed to the end of August as per my link.

Well then, have bitten the bullet and installed AVG 8 Free as I have certainly had no issues with AVG over the years. Will give it a fair trial and if I experience problems will get back to you all for further advice.

derrick If you look in the screen where you shedule the scan at the botton there is a tick box called Enable this task. Click in this box to remove the tick and the schedule scan is completely disabled. That's what I did and then scan manually at my convenience about once per week.

There is no speed slow down and the user interface and silent updates are better.
