CHOCOLATE RAISINS :D:D:D best thing about lidl.. 59p or something and yummyyyyyy!

    they're fantastic..

erm.. what else.. we go to lidl as it's up the road from my boyfriend, trem at uni..

Christmas stuff = good - chocolate marzipan.. very alcoholic armaretto truffles.. nice but strong!

    erm.. salami is bargainous.

    *fruit juice
*yoghurt drink - 49p for a 500ml bottle.. (mixed fruit)
    * part-bake baguettes are an absolute bargain.. 32p for 2!!
    * battery charger - 8* 2000mah and auto switch off charger for £10!
  • I was saving nicely at Lidl - fruit and veg, Parmesan, passata, bottles of tomato juice, German bread, chocolate marzipan - until the day I took Mr Sleepless so he could see what good value it is.

He's not getting to go there again after insisting on two bottles of Brunello di Montalcino at 17.99 each. ::)

The bockwurst he also bought was an unrepeatable experience and not in a good way.

If anyone from the Lidl management team is monitoring this thread, I hope they will take action on the few inferior products which we have mentioned. Who knows? Maybe in-house people start some of these threads in the first place.

My cat's fine with it! :) (The dry cat food that is - seems you can't nest quotes on 'ere.)

Thought it was time to revive good old Lidls.

I find I am shopping there more and more and Tesco less.
I have tried loads of stuff from Lidls now and found not a lot of difference though like us all I expect there are some things I won't buy and some things I will only get from the other supermarkets.
Did a reasonable shop today and it cost £27.64 would have been ££££'s more at Tesco.
I bought a box of chocs to try, I don't really like Thorntons and keep getting them for presents. The Lidl ones are called 'Melanie' and I think they are great. 40 chocs for £1.49 assorted flavours I have just eaten 8 of them (pig) and there wasn't one I didn't like, well worth trying a box bound to be a family member who will enjoy them.
Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

  • I still rate the high quality of nearly all the food and non-food items which I have tried, and the low prices of course.

But at our local Lidl, there are some aspects which really aren't so good.

The standard open hours are posted on the door as 9am - 8am. Yet they open when they feel like it; often not until 9.15am. Very unprofessional. Then they close when they feel like it, generally at about 7.50pm. Remember those times when you make a last minute dash to the shops for some milk or something?

The stocks of weekly special non-food items have become a joke, too. There are so few items of each line, that the bins are mostly empty within just 1 day.

The quality of items from LIDL is fine but it is targeting the EU / German customer so they are not that veggie friendly compared to UK retailers.

That said some of their own brand Mars, Marathon and Bounty clones are veggie (unlike MARS products that use Calf's liver!).

Germany produces most of the veggie stuff for Iceland, so they can do it if asked.

Write to LIDL and complain (I have PM me and we can co-ordinate efforts) Last year I had a go at Walkers Crisp for their MAD use of Animal product in Cheese and onion crisps. They changed!! If we can make a huge company like Pepsico (who own Walkers) change the a German retailer should also listen to consumers. The Veg. Soc has campain info PM me if you need to know more.

PS Try Netto better than ALDI or LIDL IMHO for basics. Better price, quality is good too. Packaging for veggie is gettiing better there too!

Lidl's Licorice Allsorts taste just like Bassetts used to taste before they started messing about with them.
    Snootchie Bootchies!
  • Other close Lidl taste matches, as far as I can tell include:

    - their cream crackers, which taste just like Jacobs, and

    - their Weetabix type product, which tastes just like actual Weetabix.

Both a lot cheaper, of course.

Lidl cornflakes also taste closer to Kellogs than any other 'own brand' cornflakes I've tried. They are still a bit different but you forget about it very quickly, and they are so much cheaper.

  • I did used to go to the Borehamwood one when I worked near it.

I never bought the nappies in case they wern't any good! Are they as good as Tesco own brand?

    Are the wipes any good?

When we had a cat all it would it was the tinned and pouched food - It wouldn't eat the expensive stuff. Also it didn't smell as bad as normal cat food as it was in proper gravy.

Wonderful products - Potato salad - Salami - Cheese - Olive oil - Chocolate- Jaffa cakes

Not keen on the fruit and veg
    I want to...........?
  • I love Lidl's. You can't usually get all your shopping there, but they do alot of things that are better quality than other supermarkets. They also often have some interesting homeware stuff at low prices.

Some of my favourite things they sell that I think are nicer or cheaper than sainsburys are:

    Cranberry juice
    Grape juice
    sweetcorn
    cherry toms
    avocadoes
    vegetables generally
Ham - but only the one in the green pack
    bacon
    mozorella cheese
    coffee
    cereals
    over 40's toothpaste
    mouthwash
    cottonwool pads
    cotton buds
    rum and orange drinks
    orange pro-biotic drinks
    Hovis best of both
    Granery loaf
    wholemeal loaf
    liquid soap
    aunt bessie's yorkie puds
    spring rolls
    choolate peanuts
and finally my one has just started selling Brioch loaf.
