I tend to avoid Lidl's because it's right in the centre of town and everytime I've been in there there's drunks and god knows what, which doesnt make it a very nice place to be...
Personally I prefer Aldis, it's same kind of principal as Lidl but the food is much nicer, they have a bit bigger range of stuff and every Thursday have some really good items on special offer.0 -
Has anyone used the super-clumping cat litter sold in Lidl. It's much cheaper than the brand I normally get but don't want to get any unless it's as good.0

That's your loss then! Our local Lidl never has as many customers as nearly Morrisons and I often try to understand why. Snobbery, a few minutes longer queuing at the checkout, alien brand names, foreign-speaking customers, any excuse really. All these people are the losers, simply feeling more comfortable going to a big brand name store with seductive lighting for irrational reasons and paying over the odds - completely against the spirit of a true 'money saver'.

Have you tried Layers Pellets as cat litter? Layers Pellets is chicken/duck food!
I, and many other people I know including pet rescues, breeders etc, use Layers Pellets. You can pick up sacks of these from places like Pets At Home, or farm shops (if you have access to these), for very little money. The pellets absorb liquids and smells very well, and forms an easily removed 'pancake', although not as solid as with ultra-clumping litter. And then again, there is the issue of cats who manage to eat some ... layers pellets is food so no harm. Ultra-clumping is definitely not good to eat.0 -
I used to be prejudiced against Lidls because of the lack of choice - still an issue really for things like frozen meals. I don't buy a lot of these but keep a selection in the freezer for those times when you need a meal for one late at night or whatever. We're vegetarian and there isn't much for us in Lidl's freezers. Kids didn't like their potato waffles either and they're a once a week thing for us. But I can easily shop at Lidls and do a once a month shop at Asda for my loose tea and other non-Lidl items. We've got an Aldi coming to towne and I'm looking forward to checking that out too.
Worst thing about Lidls? Long queues in a small shop - I can put up with it but it would have put me off in my shopping with babies and toddlers days.0 -
Reading this thread brings a smile to my face....
How times have changed... well certainly since I first went shopping in a LIDL store (must be about 6 years ago?)
Back then my nearest store for miles and miles was in Thamsmead, SE London - I musy admit the store...and the location was pretty grim... and still is now... but there are probably 5 or so other stores relatively near now.... my preferred one is Welling, Kent... it's large and the store staff are pretty helpful.... thought there still seems to be no avoiding to long queues.
My family and friends laughed at me the first time I said... go here... try their this that and the other product but slowely they have all become converts... the majority much preferring things like the chocolate, biscuits, frozen items etc...
My personal favourites are the walnut or vanilla ice cream, egg mayonnaise sandwich filler, the thin crust pizza's (except the ham and mushroom one), the fruit juices, general hygiene products such as handwash, mouthwash, toothpaste etc.. and I personally think the fruit and veg is vastly superior to Morrisons (where my partner still does a main weekly shop)...Morrisons fruit and veg is lucky to make it through the weekend!!
Our shopping bill at places like Morrisions and Asda has dropped significantly now and instead our weekly shop is supplemented by things from either Lidl or Aldi...
The other crucial thing to remember about places like LIDL is that they do offer something different to big stores... there are things in LIDL that I have never seen in Morrisons or Asda...so this additional choice of products also makes them worth checking out.
Comparing LIDL to ALDI... there are some really nice items at Aldi and the shopping experience generally is better... but LIDL remains cheaper for most things... choosing between the two would be hard... I just hope they go from strength to strength against the big boys like Tesco but retain their bargain pricing.0 -
I went to Lidl`s around 4 years ago, bought some tuna that tasted awful and hated it, i stayed away until a few months ago, i re-discovered Lidl`s and found it a weird but wonderful place to shop in. It stocks many very good items and i particulary like their fruit juices. You get a good mixture of nationalities that shop there and it`s almost like shopping in a foreign land, which i personally enjoy. One thing you cant call Lidl`s is BORING, coz its defintiely isnt that.I agree with the person that said in other shops you are paying for the soft music etc.I do , however, have to shop at another supermarket and top up with lidl goods.well worth the visit.regards, Elaine“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. I bought a small axe at Lidl about 4 years ago. Very cheap - under £5. Still in excellent condition. Also a cheap socket set. -ditto- above.Nice to save.0

Elaine - when you said it's like shopping in a foreign land, it reminded me of when we went to Lidl's in Greece last year. It was great fun. They had lots of foods that I would like to see in our Lidl's, but I supose they wouldn't sell very well here. Oh and the funniest memory was that my husband got a bit confused about how to turn in there (because he was not used to driving on the right ) and turned into the wrong place causing the bloke in the car behind us to shout "Malaka" i.e. W*****.
p.s. I've even kept some of their flyers to remind me of the visit.0 -
