Chris when you've got a sec maybe you would tell me the best way t store it once you've opened the vacuum pack, thanks.

Off on a tangent, I have a Tefal cheese box
(first time I've tried a link and it doesn't look right, so if it doesn't work, do a search on www.lakelandlimited.com.) Not cheap at £13 but big enough for a mega block of cheddar and a hunk of parmesan and no need for clingfilm, foil, greaseproof etc. No dried up or mouldy cheese. I've had mine ten years and it goes in the dishwasher every week and is still as good as new.

I know, I know but it's probably the only one I'll ever buy and all cheese keeps perfectly. Not the case with my old Tupperware box.

Just cling film it and keep it in the fridge and it will last months. I keep mine that way. The other way is to freeze it, I bought a load back from Germany a few years back and froze it with no problems - tasted just as good

Can I suggest an alternative method of storing your cheese?

I had this great product from tefal, it's supposed to be for grating parmesan cheese, but can also be used for grating nuts chocoalte, anything really. Moving house I have lost it, must get one again soon, it was just great.

You can't get a very large amound of product in it, but it really does it's job well, and stores unused amounts inside as it has a cap to keep it airtight.

Click here to see it on lakeland, or you might want to see if you can get it cheaper elsewhere, Argos used to do it I think, but it isn't on the website at the mo.

Had to tell all you people who haven't got round to trying Aldi's and Lidl's that I started shopping there a couple of weeks ago. I had originally been in to Lidl's a while ago, but didn't like it much. However, spurred on by the thought of money saving, I sallied forth once more. The Lidl's and Aldi's are quite close to each other (with a large Asda in between for those purchases you can't get at the other stores) I therefore did most of my shop at Aldi's then popped into Lidl's on my way past. Then, last night, I decided to see how much I had saved versus doing it at Tesco's (my normal store)

Using the online Tesco shopping list I did the same shop - except that where amounts or quality was different or unknown, I chose Tesco value or the cheapest version available.

My Aldi/Lidl shop totalled £83.36. (This did include lots of wine and a special bottle of whiskey as a pressie.)
Without booze, the shop came to £47.75

Tesco: Total spend with booze £94.61
    Tesco without booze : £ 55.89

I have also to say that as wine is hard to judge, as I haven't drunk it yet, the Lidl stuff looks decent quality and I am told by a neighbour it is lovely stuff, yet I priced on the cheapest type of the same wine Tesco's had. I also found that the quality of the fresh fruit and veg as well as cheese and cooked meats was far better than Tesco, especially for the price. I shall definately be returning to these shops. Even though they are slightly further away, I shall pop in when passing and it's even worth makng a special trip. They also have the benefits of excellent special offers every week.

I raved about Lidl for the last 4 or 5 years but I am afraid to say that I think that they are begining to lose it. About a month ago they were closed on one Sunday, they have had a re-org and I find it difficult to find the products which I have been previously buying. I had it down to a fine art, after leaving work at 4, I could be in at 5 past and patiently waiting at the checkout by 20 past.
Besides that though, certain products appear to have been discontinued. The major one being large tins of dog food, I can get by without it but my dog is starting to shed the pounds. Has anyone else noticed any products which are no longer available ?

Ours changed things around a bit too but got used to it. We bought the large tins of dogfood yesterday so posssibly just your local store that has discontinued them? Maybe each store decides depending on the demand for each product?

This is the first time we bought that particular dog food and the dog won't look at it.
