Lidl are excellent for Basmati Rice (something like 88p a kilo) and the small cartons of fresh apple and orange juice (I buy a couple of trays at a time, great for the kids). Bacon is also good value and quality. Cleaning products good too.0

steady__eddie wrote:I noticed that the bananas tend to over ripen quicker even when I buy them as green as I can. The bagged potatoes amuse me though, they are half price every other week so I buy 2 bags on those weeks and none in-between. None have ever shooted. However..... the main point of this posting is to enquire about the own brand Marmite. I realise that you either love it or loathe so I may be enquiring of a minority audience but is it as good, or as bad, depending on your point of view, as the real mccoy ?
One difference (apart from the price!) is that it's slightly runnier than Marmite. That's not a bad thing when you're spreading it on your toast!0 -

I love Aldi digestives. They are the best tasting biscuits and I go out of my way to visit Aldi just to get them!
I haven't tried Lidl yet but I definitely will. My sister-in-law saw a colleague at work drinking a cappucino and said it looked lovely and frothy. Her colleague said it was absolutely gorgeous and was instant cappucino from Lidl! Apparently it comes in a tin. Has anyone else tried it?
My sister-in-law used to date a guy who's mum was German and they are apparently quite fussy about their coffee. We had a coffee in a German bar in Majorca a couple of years ago and it was GORGEOUS, so I can quite testify to that!!!0 -
i use the instant cappucino. you need to be generous with how much you use though, else it can be a bit watery, especially the almond one
i also agree with cantthink - the marmite copy tastes just as good as the real thing, but it is very runny0 -
One thing to be aware of with Lidl is they only give refunds on faulty goods. No refunds if you change your mind or have purchased wrong item0

Lidl walnut icecream -- yum Yum YUM !!! Chocolate one's good too. Frozen icecream lollies covered in chocolate are good. Can you see a pattern here :rotfl:
Cooked meats are good and the frozen bratwurst.
Avoid the cheap wine, it's exactly that.
Avoid the baked beans too, nasty taste."Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience." Anon.0 -
The gin is particularly good value!!!! About £7 for a large bottle.
Have to buy the tonic from tesco tho!!
But have to use tesco anyway for veggie stuff, quorn etc. Usually do a shop at Tesco once a month and then top up with Lidl
Bread, cheese, fruit and veg are all good. They had a great offer on pesto a few weeks back, but it seems like they were just getting rid of it!
Have fun at Lidl, don't forget to pick up some chocolate!
I always come back with extra goodies that I wasn't intending to buy! It's all under control!:beer:0 -
