    Things I don't like from Lild's
Their milk, tastes funny in coffe
    Spreadable butter, no taste
    Potatoes,
Fruit ****tail in tin , not much taste edited censor thingy:D
    Some of the bread
Tried their gammon this week - delicious
    Jelly babies - lovely

It just goes to show how we all have different tastes.

I've been using Lidl milk for years in coffee, cereal, everything. I've never noticed any difference whatsoever to any other 'brands' of fresh milk. Just as good. Perhaps the milk varies by region.

I use their potatoes, tinned fruits and various types of their bread, and am very happy with all these, too.

  • I bought milk once before in Lidl when we still shopped in Sainsburys, it was awfull, poured most of it down the sink! Over he last 6 months we have done 60% (30% in Farmfoods and the other 10% in major supermarkets) of our shopping in Lidl, and buy milk there all the time, seems like we had a duff bottle the first time.
  • One thing I would add about Lidl milk and, moreover, fresh chickens, beef mince and some other products - is that they seem to 'go off' quicker than similar products from Tesco, Sainsburys, etc, despite having decent 'due dates' when I buy them. Potatoes produce shoots quicker, too. It's like Lidl stuff can sometimes go off the day after the due date! Whereas Tesco products might still smell fresh for several days after their due dates, if you want to take that 'risk'.

I don't let it deter me. I just use Lidl products within a few days and there is no problem. I've never been ill after eating anything from Lidl either, touch wood. That's for sure.

  • I like a lot of liddles tinned foods, my son loves their mushy peas and the tins of sweetcorn are very good, I usually buy a case of tinned stuff at a time as our nearest Liddles is about 9 miles away. As someone else mentioned the olive oil and balsamic vinegar is really cheap too. And at Christmas the Stollen is brilliant.

Last time I shopped i bought their basmati rice, again much cheaper than other places.

beef turds, as we've lovingly renamed them here - they're kebab/beef things that are delicious. come in a green/red bag.. 1kg for about £2.50..

Was just reading this and nearly wet myself! :) Fact is, I know exactly what you are talking about and you are right, they do look like little dog turds, mmm sounds yummy ;)

I have noticed that the veg and fruit at Aldi is totally different than Morissons and Asda. I noticed it actually looks like proper veg and fruit and tates better not bland. And yes they do go off quicker.
This made me think that Aldi and maybe Lidl and Netto may use Non GM produce (organic???) where as Morrisons and Asda who have the worst and most expensive veg do.
Have you noticed the difference in looks, size, texture and taste compared to supermarkets.

You may have made a very valid observation here. Lidl veg is closer in appearance, at least, to home grown veg from my allotment. The shape and appearance of my home grown allotment veg is nowhere near as good as veg from Tesco and other large supermarkets, but the taste is incomparable.

  • I noticed that the bananas tend to over ripen quicker even when I buy them as green as I can. The bagged potatoes amuse me though, they are half price every other week so I buy 2 bags on those weeks and none in-between. None have ever shooted. However..... the main point of this posting is to enquire about the own brand Marmite. I realise that you either love it or loathe so I may be enquiring of a minority audience but is it as good, or as bad, depending on your point of view, as the real mccoy ?

Interesting this I wonder if I write and ask what their policy on GM is if I do will post reply here unless someone keener beats me to it!
I have just rung Lidl and the person I spoke to checked with their produce department and she came back to say they do not sell any GM foods at all but wasn't very informative other than that.

The best thing is their parmesan cheese. You can buy a huge block for a couple of pounds and grate your own when you need it. No more paying £4 for a tub of 'Italian hard cheese' when you can buy the real stuff for far less!

I can vouch for this, just eating a little of it grated over my homemade Minestrone.

Chris when you've got a sec maybe you would tell me the best way t store it once you've opened the vacuum pack, thanks.
