I suffered from hyperemesis when pregnant - I was sick every day, all day, all the way through. I was even throwing up in labour!
So I didn't eat a varied enough diet - mine was inferior. Too many foods made me throw up. I ate a world's supply of raw carrots and peppers, drank lots of milk, and took vitamin tablets. Certainly second best, but I don't expect people to fudge that just because I couldn't help it.
Neverdespairgirl - don't feel you have to answer but when your said in your earlier post that you smoked through the first 6 weeks of pregnancy I assumed that you didn't know you were expecting at that point?!
Had to ask as it surprised me and obviously you just don't seem like the smoking in pregnancy type of mum to me!:D0 -

I'm glad you don't give a !!!! how I feed my baby. Hallelujah! And I'm glad you don't consider yourself superior as I certainly don't consider yourself so.
I do, however, think that BFing does damage to ones hearing as it seems to fall on deaf BF's ears that 'most FF's know breast is best'. I also think once you have decided to BF or FF you should live and let live. Maybe put down the text books and take the WHO website off your browser. Can I recommend a different pastime? I particuarly enjoy relaxing with Patricia Cornwell and James Patterson
Excellent idea. Why don't we all just give in now and feed our babies whatever we fancy? Crusha, anyone?
You see, it's not nice to care about babies other than your own. It's not right to be interested in promoting - and raising the use of - the food that is superiorly and naturally intended for babies, when it could so easily be done; saving the NHS millions and preventing babies suffering tummy bugs/colic/constipation/dying of SIDs.
Let's give up now guys, it just doesn't matter! :TI like you. I shall kill you last.0 -

Gosh, it must be so tiring having the weight of the welfare of the world's babies on your shoulders! Maybe you should wind down your crusade and start concentrating on your own family? :T0 -
I guess surreysaver has got what he wanted because I am really riled by him constantly saying 'breastfeeding hippies'. I am tempted to report those posts but this has actually been a worthwhile debate overall.
But is it really any different to someone else saying 'formula feeding chavs'?
No.
Actually it was a formula feeding friend of mine who said FF was chavvy. I laughed and told her not to be so ridiculous.
Why is abuse okay if it is thinly veiled as humour?0 -

We all know that breast is best for baby - surely no one is debating that but I don't think it makes a baby superior to a bottle fed baby - there are too many other factors to take in to account in the wider picture.
I think it is a shame that this has degenerated in to a slanging match between a few people - after all we all do our best for our children - it's not a competition
Whoa! I am not having a go or seeking to annoy anyone.
First of all if you haven't tried breast feeding it is literally impossible to explain to you about the bonding thing.
Secondly no baby "is superior" to another regardless of what it is fed, colour, nationality, religion etc...
The allergy thing has a sound basis in medical papers - my friend who felt guilty because of her poor son who has dreadful allergies found this out in the hospital because the consultants treating the child kept asking her did she breast feed and indeed explained why they asked.
Finally, some people for various reasons cannot breast feed even if they want to as opposed to those that do it for vanity reasons. I agree it is cruel for them to hear things which are 'positive' about breast feeding but many of these things are medically proven and life is sometimes tough!
That said if you have a child and love him/her to bits the child will know this regardless of breast feeding or not.
If you breast feed a child and then later in life give it junk food and make it fat later- well thats daft! Maybe a child that has been ff will have a responsible parent who ensures its solid food is always nutritious....goodness knows.
There are so many factors, I reckon we all should do our best, whatever that is.Frankly, the way it is with some of my friends at the moment - we are just lucky to be able to have children.0 -

why can you not accept that it is a free choice?
i think its intensly patronising to suggest that formula feeding mums are doing so because of advertising..
I'm sorry but I don't understand
If advertising didn't work the companies wouldn't be doing it?
I can't believe that womens views are not swayed by advertisingK xx

I have to agree, whether consciously or not advertising by the ff companies has affected public perception for generations.
I am annoyed at myself for initially feeling it was wierd, saying that my mother was quite anti it because she herself hadn't done it and it was a "self defence".Thank goodness I had a good nurse who really helped me with actually doing it.0 -

:rotfl: The day I do something because Jordan tells me to, is the day I put a gun to my head and pull the trigger!
I have something to add to the comments re allergies. One of my family members breastfed both her little ones, and they both have allergies to all sorts of things, as well as excema and asthma. Their mum is an excellent mother, who was (and is) very careful with food choices for her kids. I have to say I do think that kids who have allergies will have allergies whether breastfed or not.
That said, I think breastmilk is very good for building up the imune system. I agree with Jimmy - there should be more provision for women to donate milk, so that babies who might otherwise be FF can receive breastmilk.0 -

people may or may not get swayed by advertising..
thats my point, i should have said its patronising to suggest that all women are persuaded by companies to ff rather than bf..
if i wanted to make buy a car, for eg, i won't rush off to buy the one i saw in an advert that morning, i would do some research and buy one after weighing up the information in my mind...
im funny like that.

Are you sure? They are both expensive to keep, produce noxious emissions and are collected by celebrities and rich people!
