If the medical profession really wanted everyone to breast feed they'd make everyone try it at birth, rather than giving a choice of whether they want a bottle made up for them (in the case of my sister, who very gladly took the bottle).

I'm glad I don't want kids. The pressures of being made to feel like a crap person because I simply wouldn't want to bf would put me off entirely.

  • Actually in the case of being HIV positive the WHO recommend that some mothers breastfeed instead of using formula - because the risks of formula CAN be greater.

we all know breast is best!
some bf mothers really do get very obsessed.. and really look down thier noses at mums who bottlefeed - trying to convert them to thier way..
i have met one, who i think even runs her car on breastmilk..

    that is ridiculous .
HIV is passed through bodily fluids, including breastmilk..
if you have HIV there is less than a 1% chance your baby will become infected if you have a section and do not bf..
    what a stupid comment.
the risks of formula are greater than the risks of HIV???
you are very foolish to beleive that

the thing is, she's lovely and a friend but i did avoid her for a little while as the conversation was purely breastfeeding, everything was revolving around it and i think a quite a lot of people got fed up of the constant lectures she liked to give..

it is the best way to feed your baby, but i really dont see why some , and i repeat, some mums go doolally and become obsessed!

we are there to provide information and support mums in their choice.. we do not force anyone to do anything with their babies..
the babies do not belong to us, but to their mums..
do you really think we should be forcing mums to bf??

No, but the attitude on here is that non bf mothers are the spawn of the devil. Surely if its that important, health care professionals should be teaching about the benefits of bf. My sister was never told about it (not like she would have cared)

formula is an acceptable choice for those who wish to bottle feed..
who are you to say what is acceptable or not
Would you say that cigarettes are an acceptable choice for those who want to smoke in front of their babies?
If not, who are you to say what is acceptable or not?
Formula feeding is harmful to a child...
Agreed. Glad you've responded to that. It follows on from the link you gave in post #123 (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/8529/BF/language.html).
