If you go onto the official playstation forums, you can see there that most people with a launch 60gb don't use the backwards compatibility. Not all ps2 games work on it anyway. The 40/new 80gb only have two USB ports but you can get a hub for more ports cheap, a card reader isn't expensive either if you need that.

The John Lewis deal seemed the best one.

Those lovely people at John Lewis have decided to again sell off a 40Gb PS3 with game for only £282. OK so the game is not worth £34.95 as the JL site indicates (look on play.com for a price tag of about £15) but this is still a good deal in my opinion. There was 8 in stock however this now stands at 7 as I have just put my order in. :j :j :j

knobbyuk - thanks for highlighting the price reduction. I have contacted those friendly people at John Lewis Customer Service and cancelled my initial order and replaced it with the new priced bundle... saving an additional £40.

Is there much point in buying one of these if the new double capacity HD and backward compatible PS3 is out in a few weeks at the same price? Won't it come down in price more than this?

dont think this will have the backward compatibility! only the 60gb will!
yes double capacity, but....you could always upgrade your hdd at a later dat to 320gb by yourself.

Yep, there's no backwards compatability on the new 80gb model but it will come with the dual shock3....
