On the 40GB model you cant play PS2 or PSOne games and also you dont have an ethernet connection and no memory card reader built in. You also only get 2 usb connections. The 60GB console has all of the above plus a total of 4 usb connections.

I was not aware of any 'old' 80GB consoles been sold in the UK as when I got mine it was on the release date int he UK and was a 60GB.

    Hope this helps.

It can play PS1 games. You can buy them from the playststion store.

I don't understand what you mean about the Ethernet. Before I had my wireless router, I would connect my ps3 to my modem with an Ethernet cable and got online with that. I would say this meant is has an Ethernet connection.

I don't mind that it can't play ps2 games since I still have my ps2 anyway.

£37.50 via quidco - tracked and paid
    £60 cashback automatically + PS3 + free phone

Offer's not away's on, so keep checking - looks like its 18months
    at the moment....

If like me though, i was buying the ps3 anyway....

    35 * 12 = 420
    420 - 60 = 360
    360 - 37.50 = 322.50
    322.50 - 280 = 42.50
samsung U600 pink worth atleast £40
    £2.50 for 500 mins a month + 600 text sounds ok to me ;-)

For anyone contemplating buying the PS3 in the states, the best price I found was from Amazon and Wal-Mart and was $499 for the 80GB including MGS4 and the new Dual Shock controller.

The console includes WiFi, SD and CF card readers, 4 USB ports, Bluetooth and WiFi (not found on UK Models). Also the US model has software backward compatability for PS2 games which us Brits were demied.

Also the US model has the ability for you to control it wirelessly using a PSP, and I have heard that some games allow the PSP to interact with the PS3 e.g some driving games let the PSP be used as rear view mirror.

As for power supply issues- they will work over here as the US models have a universal PSU, but rumour has it that the UK version is locked at 240V so it will not work state side if you buy one here for use in the US (but why would you?).

Video output will not present a problem if you have a digital HDMI input as it is unaffected, but if you do not have HDMI and want to use the analogue output, its NTSC so will not work on PAL only sets.

    Update on previous post/reply...
John Lewis have now sold out of stock of the latest Playstation bargain bundle (they do have the console only in stock but the price is not competitive).
Fingers crossed some more gems present themselves in the near future!
  • The 80GB is the same as the 40GB - that's great! I want to buy my husband one for Christmas. I've got a Wii (which he thinks is for children) and which I really like, but he has lusted after a PS3 for a while now - we were waiting for them to come down in price but it looks like you get more for your money don't you?

Just remember that if you buy abroad, Sony UK won't cover your warranty. Also you can buy a 320gb HDD for about £80 & upgrade your PS3 without voiding the warranty, Sony even tell you in the handbook how to do it...........
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!

    Hi

Am looking at getting a ps3 am have seen the reportsto hold off until the 80gb comes out soon but am leaning more towards the 60gb as it has the backwards compatability and a few other bits the 40gb (soon to be 80gb) doesn't have but can't find any good deals .

HELP moneysavers - first to find the best deal gets a prize !!!
