TIRED OF THOSE PRINTER MANIFACTURERS RIPPING YOU OFF, CHARGING 30 DOLLARS FOR A 5-DOLLAR INK CARTRIDGE? READ THIS AND GET EVEN WITH THESE COMPANIES... AND NEVER PAY FOR ANOTHER INK CARTRIDGE!
Well, I have a little scam I'm running and it's actually quite simple. First I will say that I am all for being honest and would never defraud anyone in any other circumstance but the my experience with HP's printer cartridges has forced me to do this in retaliation.
My situation was that I own a HP Officejet v40 and have owned it about 2 years. In that period of time I have bought 4 black cartrridges and 1 color cartridge that DID NOT WORK OUT OF THE BOX. And I couldn't return them to the store from where I'd bought them because I'd bought them too long ago. That's because I , like may people, generally don't wait until midnight while I'm printing off that big college essay that's due tomorrow to find out that I'm out of ink. Ink is something that you really need to keep on hand and I always keep one or two extra.
Last week I ran out of black ink. I had two extras, so I replaced it. I get an error message that says "incorrect black cartridge" I tried to get it to work for a half hour to no avail. I, luckily had one more extra so I put it in. I got the same message! That was 2 BAD CARTRIDGES IN A ROW! I happened to have 2 empty black cartridges, so I found some ink I still had from a cartridge refill kit and I refilled both of those. But neither of these cartridges work either!!
I then went to HP's website and tried every remedy listed on their support site 5 times! I then emailed a support person, explaining my problem in great detail. I then get a reply from this lady asking me if I had the right cartridge and she also included links to their support website with link to articles that deal with cartridge error problems.
As usual with these support people, I had waited two days for a !!!!!! reply. The DUMB !!!!!! obviously didn't even read my email before she replied because explicitly stated to her that I had tried all the remedies on their website. And after buying 7 BAD INK CARTRIDGES does she actually think I would not have considered that I might have the wrong cartridges by now!! I then write her back and her that I've tried all remedies and that I have the right kind of cartridge. She then replies saying that it could be a problem with the printer. I tell he rthat that's impossible because every time this has happened, I go out and buy another new cartridge and it works fine. IT IS DEFINETELY THE DEFECTIVE CARTRIDGES HP MANIFACTURES and I tell her I want a refund. She says she can't do that and tells me to make sure I save my receipt next time and test all cartridges when I bring them home so that I can get my money back next time!
At this point I'm plenty !!!!!!-off, just frustrated as hell. I've now spent a total of over 200 dollars on faulty cartridges for a printer I've only owned for 2 years. I don't want to replace the printer because it cost me almost 300 dollars and it worked fine. Then I happen to think "Don't get mad... get even"
So here's my what I do now...
When I run out of ink I go to the store and buy several new cartridges, one for each defective one I have at home. Then (providing it's not defective too) I take it out of the box and put the defective one back in the box and then I take it back to the store and tell them it's defective (which it is... its just not the one I bought). Wala! I have now gotten my money back.
This is also what I now do when I run out of ink. I buy a new cartridge and put it in my printer, then I take the old one out and put it in the box and take it to the store and tell them the cartridge was defective. Just in case, they would be suspicious of me bringing back an empty cartridge and check it, I have a remedy for that too. I just uncover that little refill whole and fill the cartridge with water and then glue the cover back over the whole. Now there's really no way they can tell it's not a full cartridge! It has worked great for me so far!
And if you think that's dishonest....
First I'll remind you that the store is not out any money. They will just get their money back from the manifacturer, Hewlett-Packard who is making this overpriced, defective !!!!!!. I normally would never do anything like this but I feel justified. Those !!!!!! charge 30 dollars for a lousy 2 dollars' worth of ink and materials. They lure you with an inexpensive printer, and never tell you that 3 or 4 ink refills is more costly than the printer itself. I feel quite justified AND SATISFIED in getting even with those crooked !!!!!!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Not a saving tip i am affraid :-[ :-[ :-[
Was hassledby aussielle to buy a new cartridge (black) for our HP Deskjet 640C, bought in a hurry after work for over £20 :-[ and then found out that i could have bought it at a shop down the road for a couple of pounds cheaper >:(
Will never do it again though.
We have a refill shop down the road but they say that the cartridge should be refilled straight after it runs out and not later like me (4 months) but they might just be saying that so i rush down as soon as it runs out of ink.
[move]Does anybody know if this is true or not ???[/move]
They would refill them for about £13.00 pounds.
Also said that the refilled cartridge would hold about 30 - 40% more ink ??? Is this true or not ???0 -
Yep Aussie, it is true. If you wait too long after an ink jet or bubble jet cartridge has run out of ink the minute holes in the matrix become clogged, and it will either have impaired print quality or more or less clog-up altogether. You can use a special squegee to clear this often, but that is whole more hassle!
Black cartridges for 640s normally cost £7 if you have them refilled at Cartridge World, but you can do them yourself for about £1.50 if you buy bulk ink. It is normally true that when you refill them you put more ink in than when new because HP intentionally do not fully fill them so that they run out more quickly. I find that if you refill them quickly before they become clogged you can usually get a life of about 7 to 10 refills before the print quality gets unacceptable, but you must ensure that you have good well-formulated ink.
To refill the colour cartridges you have to prise the top off first. You can secure it until the next refilling with Sellotape or Bluetack. Generally with the black cartridges you must drill a hole to insert the ink. Don't be tempted to try to get it in through the hole in the top middle. You will permanently damage the sealing of the internal ink sack. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
For users of HP Deskjet 3550 and 3325 Pricestorm @ https://www.pricestorm.com are excellent - £10.99 and £12.99 for a black and colour cartridge respectively.
The biggest con about ink cartridges is once the software says they've run out they have still got between 10-100 pages left in them! Talk about rip-off.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Looking at Martin's original post he says there are no Inkcartridge price comparison services available on the web.
Is this true?
If so i'll write one - if you don't mind me using the sites mentioned in this thread . Would this be OK. I don't want to be seen as stealing content or anything so would a link back to this site be OK?
At first it would only cover HP cartridges but I would look to increase this to other brands.Alex Jones0 -

Oh and I forgot to mention they offer £2 cashback for any cartridges they can recycle:We cannot recycle Epson inkjets or other ink tanks, damaged, compatible or previously refilled cartridges. We do recycle most HP and Lexmarks and many Canon cartridges
They even supply a freepost envelope to return the spent cartidges in.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I only ever use genuine HP cartridges, which gurantees consistant quality. After all, I found that PriceStorm do HP51649A for just £17.49 inc. free delivery - cheapest I could find it at!
Bargain seeing as most retail shops charge about £29.0
