My sister gave me a Herman before Christmas that is now on it's 2nd division so I'm going to pass some onto my neighbours in a neighbourly gesture  having passed some onto mother in law & sister in law last time. Mother in law got very confused with the instructions I gave her as I'd done as my sister had & photocopied the instructions with our ticks on them, so I've printed them off new this time!

My sister's friend had made hers with chocolate chips & sliced banana instead of the apples & raisins, & apparently it was yummy! (DS1 & I are not banana fans so I won't be trying this variation ;) )
  • My DD has acquired a Herman today and I expect I will have to do the looking after (although I am sure I will enjoy the resultant cake). She is already planning who the babies will go to........

My daughter has a Herman, we went round on Sunday for a lovely apple cake. It was light inside with a sweet crust. Not sure the growing effort was the only way to achieve such a cake however. She's passing some on anyhow.

That's so weird; I found the instructions on my mum's fridge today. Must be going around again.

They're discussing this on Woman's Hour this morning, so I'm bumping the thread to make it easier to find- I'm sure there will be more posts about him!

I've just listened to this item, and then found this near the top of the OS board - felt as if it was following me around! :rotfl:Only hope no-one passes the wretched thing on to me. I truly loathe chain letters/emails and all that sort of thing - don't like receiving them, but really, really detest passing them on and usually don't. At least presumably Herman doesn't come with threats and dire warnings to those who kill him off

I agree..... usually anything that looks even remotely like a chain email/ text/ letter etc gets deleted immediately, and I often text or email the person back who sent it, to ask them to think carefully before they pass anything like that on!
Honestly, the thought of a Herman cake, sort of rubs me up in the wrong way too. And I was just told the other day by my neighbour's little one, that she will be passing Herman on to me in a few days too!! Yikes!
Mind you, as my sourdough starter resolutely is refusing to play, and I've had it going for 3 weeks, I think I may just give in and use the flippin thing when i get it!

  • Guess what my neighbour gave me today! :D :j:j

I've never met Herman before and am childishly excited about him- anything that results in cake can't be all bad.
A friend remarked that she'd not seen Herman since he got spilt inside her husband's rucksack on the way home from work... Luckily mine only had to travel two doors up the road.

I was given Herman on Friday so I've just done the first stage of feeding, I must admit that I forgot to stir for the first couple of days doh.gif but he doesn't seem to have suffered.

I'm looking forward to deciding what flavour to make Herman Recipes

It's not exaclty a chain letter though as there are no threats involved with not passing it on (have not had a cake and have never heard of this before). It sounds like a lovely community spirited thing to do, and a great way to let someone know you think a lot of them imho.
