Hi there. I am new to the forum so hope I am not asking a stupid question... Watched priceline.com story last night on TV about bidding for hotels worldwide so decided to see if I could get a hotel in August for Paris. After having tried unsuccessfully to pay, I contacted them and an agent told me that you can only bid for your own price for hotels if you hold a USA or Canadian credit card. Otherwise they said the only option is to go for the lists of hotels on the site. You pay in US Dollars and charged accordingly on your UK card. So can anyone tell me if that is actually correct or not. I don't understand why the TV show would not have mentioned that. Or did I miss something ... ?

THanks anyway for your patience and hopefully someone can help !

Read my guide  Click on the blue words...

The TV show and agent were talking bo***cks

There is a UK site on which you can use UK cards,

Please RESEARCH the likely hotels and prices before you bid.
  • I "won" a 5* hotel in Paris for my wedding anniversary - YAY!

Unfortunately, it wasn't in an area I'd selected (actually an area I'd never select) and they have refused to offer any refund or alteration.

They're only registered with the local sales agencies in a handful of US States - no international travel bodies, and have pointed me to their terms and conditions, which state that they are not responsible for any system errors.

Many thanks for pointing me in the direction of an unregulated travel company that denies all culpability!!!

Did you read any guides as to how to bid on Priceline ?

Did you double check everything before bidding?

Sorry you did not get what you wanted.

    Enjoy the honeymoon

Wow! Do you work in their customer services department, because you sound just like them! You also seem to cut and paste the response above to anyone who has anything negative to say about Priceline.com

There seems to be something decidedly dodgy about your support of this company.

They've also just refused to give me the contact details of anyone senior in their Customer Services Dept and said they have no formal complaints policy other than the web query form.

Wow - what an excellent company to recommend on a consumer-focused site!

As I was a Travel Agent for 7 years, visit Paris every year, and travel globally throughout the year, I can only assume that you spend all day in your Mum's back bedroom tring to pretend you're something you're not.

Their customer service is non-existant, and they're NOT ATOL or IATA registered.

Their system (as I've told them repeatedly - they're clearly as dense as you) has made an error in putting me in an area I did not choose.

    Enjoy your empty life...:rotfl:

Your partner must be really looking forward to marrying you

    So:
Did you read any guides as to how to bid on Priceline ?

Did you double check everything before bidding?

Did you use the UK or USA site?

If you knew they were not ATOL or IATA registered and you are an experienced global TA why did you use them?

    BTW
Your assumptions are way off the mark

You really need to be more polite when you join forums.

What was your bid and bid zones?
    What hotel did you win?

Easy, GarPorch! We're supposed to be especially nice to you as a newcomer so I'll be gentle. ;)

blindman has consistently offered advice to those willing to take it. He has been thanked over 3,000 times, and I imagine there are more who have benefited without thanking.

There really is no point in slagging off a Fantastically Fervent MoneySaving Super Fan who's been active in this forum for almost nine years.

After all, somebody less gentle might think of reporting offensive posts.

    Try this link on BFT

Look at the list of reported hotels Here

You do have to do a bit of research yourself to use priceline
