San Francisco Marriott
July 28-30
Winning Bid £57 per night plus taxes
Best published rate £120 plus taxes
Very happy as I have status with Marriott (thanks to a certain MSEer), so will get upgrade to concierge level, free breakfast etc!
My Marriott Gold status saved myself and Mrs Baker an absolute fortune this year so far. Free brekkie, evening snacks, booze, etc in Berlin, Prague and London . The Berlin stay was a £55 Priceline win.
Good win, by the way :TThis space has been intentionally left blank0 -

Interesting little debate
I have had over 50 priceline stays (not nights) mostly US and UK and I always call the hotel straight after the bid is confirmed and request my preferred room type. I've yet to have a hotel tell me they can't find my reservation.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

Destination: London Marriott West India Quay
Type of accommodation: five star hotel - 5*
How many extra daily bids did you have available: Many combinations of free bids
How much were your 2nd/3rd etc & final bids : Started at £45 and increased by £1 until accepted at £60
The total price including taxes & fees was £75
The win in itself was not so impressive as it was only about £10 less than booking through the Marriott Website . However.......
Upon arrival on Saturday, I was asked for my bed preference and I asked for a King bed and I also asked very politely if I could have a room with a nice view ? She said certainly but the room would not be ready until after 3 pm .This was fine as we had things to do in London .
After a great day out we arrived back at the hotel to collect our keys only to be informed that we had been given a 1 King Bed curve suite (there are only 7 in the hotel) this room was on the 8th (top) floor of the hotel (the rest of the tower is other Marriott apartments and private residences) at the apex of the tower with separate bedroom and living room panoramic views to Canary wharf and the City . Needless to say we were more than a little pleased !!
On our return I checked the cost of the room and it averages at around £500 a night (though this would have included executive lounge benefits. We didnt try our luck ) . I know this was more luck than anything that we were given a suite but it goes to show that hotels don't always put Priceline customers in their worst rooms.
Full Marks to Marriott .
I remain a priceline addict (sorry rambled a bit)0 -
Can I ask another question? Is it possible to book family rooms through Priceline or are they all doubles? That'd mean I'd have to book two rooms. I've flicked through this thread and can't find the answer.0

Priceline only guarantee a room for two adults, so you take a risk that the hotel could charge you for a bigger room (if it had one).
It's in the guide I wroteWhen should I consider using Priceline?
1) You need a Hotel room than can accommodate only up to TWO people, probably in a DOUBLE bed.
If you're a family or a larger group, Priceline can still work for you, but you may not be able to fit everyone into a single room in certain situations
Priceline guarantees double occupancy, anything above that can be hit and miss.
If you must have two beds, Hotwire is your best option; they will let you specify occupancy in the room. Specify four adults; that will guarantee two beds
Hotwire lets you choose rooms for up to 4 adults.0 -
