No idea of London. Here in the (semi) rural E. Mids. prices are all over the place. Similar houses two streets apart can be priced £100 or more different. Depends on transport links, condition of house and tenancy conditions. Sometimes there seems to be no pattern though.
A LL I know well has a house close to one of my 4-bed props. His is a 1970's 3-bed detached with additional workshop/hobby room downstairs, gardens front/rear all modern furnished in a quiet cul-de-sac. Wants just 600pcm and been vacant last 3 months! Really can't work it out because I see inferior properties occupied at higher rent.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Could he not rent closer in and save on the travel?

    D'you want a lodger?

In all seriousness he tried. He left the Milan office on a Friday and started in London on a Monday, using friends sofas for the searching time, needed to find somewhere quickly while working full time. He's doing a three- six month stint in Paris next year, and on return we hope thats exactly what will happen, that he'll start the search while in Paris, meet people in the weekends leading up to the move back to London and get some where closer. Its not just the travel card money but the time, his hours are so long that every minute of sleeping time counts. If we buy somewhere on the edge of commutable he'll keep a sleeping bag in the office.

Me and the OH rent a nice (new) 2 bed 650 sqft flat in north manc for £550 pcm. It's on the good edge of a really s**t area though, but good transport links etc. Shame the local scallies like smashing car windows for a 'laugh'

Used to rent a newbuild city centre apt (was massive but the view dissapeared behind monstorous other bits of the same dev.) for 725 - it was cheap at the time for what it was a 217K (at the time lol) flat.

Used to rent a 3 bed terrace in preston for 390 pcm

Now I know we have a bargain! We rent a 2 bed flat (with another tiny room you can just about fit a single bed in, perfect as a study), our own entrance, off road parking and lovely views of a grade II listed building right over the road, just outside Manchester city centre for 390 a month.

My cousin, on the other hand, rents a place in Highgate, London, and pays close to 1000 a month for a 1 bed basement flat.

But your additional £400pm+ London salary will cover that so you're no worse off;)

Donnie: Really? Chorlton's a really nice area and one of the most expensive inside the M60..... you've got a good deal there. Strange idea of just outside city centre though.....
However if you mean whalley range or stretford that explains it!
