Just seen the bit about BT raising its prices again in Martins email. Would I be right in thinking that they only work for people out of contract though, I am contracted until October and they wont let me have the line rental saver as I got my line connected at a discounted rate. Are there any options to me?
As you say BT won't let you out of contract so look at ways of saving on calls using providers such as 18185.
Martin's article is a bit misleading - it should say
[STRIKE]Stick with BT but save £40[/STRIKE]. Stick with BT and you could save up to £40.If you'd prefer to stick with BT, get reduced line rental by paying £120 up-front for a year on its BT Line Rental Saver*, which includes weekend calls.
for me it saves £13.80
(£13.90x12)-15 (paper free discount ) = £151.80
£120 + 18 (£1.50 a month for not making chargeable calls) = £138
I can't make chargeable calls as all my calls go through AOL
Of course, I may save more than £13.80 if BT put their charges up again ( very probably)0 -
hello,
can someone help me please.
i have a contact with BT coming to end next month. the contract was
line rental 12.79 - 1.25 paper free = 11.54 - 3 credit for 12 month contract = 8.54
call plan any time 4.99 - 1 discount = 3.99
so a total of 12.53 per month
i do not want to pay upfront for the next 12 months but an willing to be tied up for another 12 months
i have yet to call them but when i check online on my BT account, the offer is 12.35 rental +4 anytime = 16.35
i will be paying nearly £4 more per month for the same thing!
surely, i can get a better deal for renewing contract for 12 months?
want some advice before i call them.
thanks, g.0 -
Hello. After hearing about another increase on my BT line rental I am thinking about changing my home phone provider.
I hardly use my landline at all, my last bill was for £37.35 and only 26p of that was calls.
Does anyone know or can help me as to what would be the best option?
I do like the security of having a landline (and I believe it is better for credit score?) plus I need a landline contact number for work.
So really, my ideal would be a really cheap monthly line rental - any ideas on what the best one would be for me? I have my broadband through Sky so don't need this included in any phone package.
Thank you0 -
I'm in the middle of an 18 month contract with TalkTalk for broadband and line rental. They've just raised these fees. Can I use this (change in conditions) to cancel my contract and switch to Plusnet?

Hi everyone,
I currently have a phone line with BT (£13.90 a month), free employee broadband, and I use BT Broadband talk through the hub (VOIP) for free evening and weekend calls.
Me and the missus have got mobiles so we only ever use the VOIP phone in the evenings and even then it's rarely, so I've been looking at Primus' saver plan recommended in Martin's article and it looks like I could cut my monthy line rental in half.
One question though... I've been given the impression by BT and Primus that I can still use my BT Broadband through the primus line as it'd only effectively be Primus handling the billing... does anyone know if I'll still be able to use my Broadband talk VOIP phone? Logically thinking I should be able to but I wouldn't want to sign up to Primus and then suddenly have this service cut off!
Also, I've seen all the bad feedback about Primus but I'm hoping that as it'll only be a case of them taking over the billing, the savings should outweigh the risk of problems.
Thanks!0 -
Have noticed that Primus charge £2.50 per month for Caller Display on top of £7.99 line rental whereas it is free on BT as long as you make 2 week-end calls a month. This makes it marginally dearer to switch to Primus Home Phone Saver rather than paying the £120 BT Line Rental Saver charge up-front plus using 18185 if you only make a few calls a month.:money:0

thanks, g.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
My contract with BT was coming to an end so I contacted them about any deals that were available but the best they could offer me was £29ish a month for calls, broadband and line rental. So I looked around and saw that TalkTalk could offer me a better deal so contacted BT again and told them this so now I am going to pay BT just under £24.00 for everything. It is worth talking nice to them and who knows what you will get offered!0

Hi thanks for that
The problem is that they wont let me have that as I paid a reduced connection fee. I was not told this when I signed up but hey, what can you say.

I am still in contract with Talk Talk, however as they have broken that contract by putting their prices up I rang them to say I wished to cancel. They then offered me a free international call boost and half price essentials call package for 6 months. Win! In the meantime, I am still going to shop about and probably cancel this anyway. Despite the offer I still didn't need to extend my contract0
