I had a shocking experience with Primus about a year ago, which I've documented in a thread specific to them.
Although there are evidently many phone companies that have lots of bad reviews at http://www.reviewcentre.com/products1035.html (scroll down to the bottom of the page) shouldn't there at least be something on the MSE utilities/phones page to highlight where there are frequent customer service issues for the 'recommended' deals in the same way that this is done for Santander/Halifax on the banking part of the site?I came, I saw, I saved.

With O2 broadband at the moment and get about 1.5Mb - not great but hey.
Anyway, did a line check with Orange and it said 1Mb if I switched. Just concerned that if I switch I'm going to get less than I do now or whether this is just some sort of estimate?
Also, if orange broadband is rubbish, can I cancel at all?0 -
My contract with BT comes to an end this month and I have the Unlimited anytime pack with includes calls to the 0845 etc numbers costing £16.50. BT said they can now offer it to me for £15.00
I have BB with o2 on legacy pack and have that currently at 6 months free and then £10.50 pm I think. I asked them about the phone pack and they said £13.50 for line rental and unlimited landline calls.
However I was thinking of getting the landline for £6.79 as shown on MSE and use a overriding provider, my question is that I know my family wont keep dialling the overrinding number so are those orchid / programming boxes still available to buy as that would be the ideal way otherwise the other alternative is get landline for £6.79 and the anytime pack which I can get for £3.99 making it a total of £10.78.
Any help appreciated.0 -
I am looking for a cheap land line rental
i am with BT but out of contract i only pay for the cheapest landline option they have, plus the processing fee and the new charge so that the rest of the country can have internet - i'm sure you know what i mean.
i dont want to pay all this its a rip off i only use it for 0845 and 0870 numbers and that is MINIMAL and i'd rather do without BT, as i have a second line (voip) with orange broadband so can call all landlines for nothing and i have an orange mobile so i can call for free there too.
i have seen the primus offer below £6.79
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/home-phone-calls?utm_source=forum&utm_medium=clicks&utm_campaign=resourcebar#plinerentalsaver
but i cannot see it on primus own website says cheapest is £8.99?? has anyone ever used primus?
i must get rid of the expensive BT i dont want to go onto cable because my broadband is only £5 a month for life
Do orange have a landline service at all?
any help appreciatedMy Signature is MY OWN!!0 -

The new government cancelled Labour's proposed 50p/month broadband surcharge.
Reports of experience of Primus line rental suggest it is dire (similarly with Orange).
It sounds like you best bet would be to opt for BT's Line Rental Saver by paying 12 months' line rental in advance and getting the cost down to £10/month.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
With BT can you no longer use a prefix number (eg:1899) followed by the number you want and get the alternative providers rate? If not how do you now achieve this?0

Hi
I had a letter from BT about a £9.50 per month package for 18 months minimum term which includes broadband and unlimited UK anytime calls (incls 0870 and 0845), line rental on top of this. I have read many comparison sites and BT don't come out too well for customer service etc. We are currently with TalkTalk (was F2S) and pay around £16 per month for calls and broadband, so I am eager to change to a cheaper service. Has anyone signed up to the £9.50 deal and if so how are they finding it? Any help much appreciated.0 -

I'm in similiar position as you. Was with F2s, got taken over by Talk Talk business (£16 pm just for BB) and not happy. My landline (£120 for 12 months) , unlimited anytime calls £4.70pm is with BT and am eager to change ISP.
Neighbours that have phone and bb with talk talk always having connection problems and unable to get support, even though cheap tarrif. Those with BT seem fairly happy with service and connection speeds, which is why I'm thinking of BT.
It's the BT Broadband tarrifs I can't decide on, since I'm already on anytime calls and £10pm rental. Also quidco ofering £100 cashback which makes BT more attractive.
Unfortunately I never got letter from BT offering £9.50 package deal (including anytime calls + BB). I just keep getting their standard BB mailshots in post, probably because I recently took up anytime calls/line rental offer - BUT NO mention of free BB.
I've already put similiar posts on other threads until I came across this one, so apologies for repeat posts.
I'm keen to see what others have done and will follow this thread with interest.0 -
I moved to Primus late last year. I never had any email or paper confirmation of the move and when I was moving house telephoned them to find out what my account number was! When asking about moving the service I had to my new property I was told that I could do this once I had moved so naturally I believed this would be ok.
To date, Primus have been absolutely useless, when I telephoned after moving they kept trying to open a new account and telling me that I would have to pay for a new line to be installed. 5 attempts I made speaking to someone who could barely speak English, to resolve this matter before I just emailed the company every day and every department I could find on the website and still to date, bareing in mind I moved in February and was told I would recieve no further bills, I receive bills from Primus. When I query it I get an email informing me to REVERT from further enquiries.
Poor service and I would never recommend them to anyone.0
