    Hmm, I'm not happy with this changing thing so am going to cancel it. My wife was paying about £17 for the health insurance, and nothing for the gym. On her last quarter they didn't log one of her visits so she has to pay £25/month for this quarter for the gym part (although we're going to challenge this as we have evidence she did go). But now her Silver status means she has to pay £38 for the gym, and for some reason the health insurance cost has gone up to over £20 - I'm sure you got a big "no claims" discount if you didn't use it - yet it's gone up!

    So it's gone from being £17/month to nearly £60/month. It's cheaper to go to the gym directly now.

    Guys I really need some help with this as it confusing me , and I have just phoned up pru health customer services who have made it as clear as mud!

    I started my health insurance and gym member ship in June this year, I go to jjb in the south east (way outside the M25) I am currently only on Bronze with 580 points.. however i go to the gym twice a week (apart from when i was on hoilday) I have points that will be added on to this as they are upto 4 weeks behind..I am paying £ 24.56 per month for the insurance and have had £50.00 come out of my account for aug.... £25.00 for sept.. and £38.00 for October for the gym..

    The pru health guy on the phone said I can stay on the old plan like i am now and they will refund me in January?????? OR i can start on the new plan??

    please please can someone help me;

    the gym i go to pricing is like this;

    £30 Silver
    £14 gold
    £0 plat

    The new pricing starts from November. Challenge the missing visit and for goodness sake do all the other stuff available and get to Gold for November or December. You could be on Platinum sooner than you think. I haven't done a ton of things that I could, such as 1 fitness assessment and a health check and I'm on about 2120 points (2000 being platinum) with 2 weeks to go before renewal.

    Don't throw away paying much much less in the long run for the sake of paying a little more for a month or two.

    The price of insurance increases every year for inflation and age. I will pay about £17 this year to cover my increase. That's normal and is not something introduced in the new gym pricing scheme.

    note to Martin/moneysaving experts:

    you really need to update the article about this offer, yes it has significantly changed but if people know how it works the first few months may be quite expensive but after that if they are willing to stick with it and plan ahead to ensure that they make platinum membership as quickly as possible - for which loads of moneysavers have posted advice in forums which u could link to - this can still b a very very good deal.

    I have just had my first annual renewal and, being a platinum member, my monthly cost has gone down to an amazing £3.79/month for the whole of next year so with long term dedication although the first few months involve a bit of initial outlay it will should out to be very moneysaving in the long term!

    I for one am chuffed with my current deal, £3.79 per month for health insurance, which I never intend to use, but with totally free gym membership. I already have a plan in place for my next year to make sure I get up to platinum again which involves absolutely no financial outlay.

    My wife (silver status) has approached the gym directly and can get membership for £33/month. Her Pru policy has changed to £20 insurance, £38 gym. If she reaches Gold, it would be £20 insurance, £22 gym.

    As she is unlikely to reach the Platinum level any time soon, she's likely going to take the direct offer.
  • £20 per month? On Gold? Are you forgetting the huge 75% no claims discount after renewal? I can see that you are.
    Even on gold (and you CAN get platinum!!!) she would be paying £5 plus inflation/age increase (say 6 to 7 quid) per month NOT £20 plus inflation/age increase. £22 + £7 = £29 means £4 saving per month even on gold compared to your new plan.

    If you don't look beyond year one then you might as well give your money to charity so it will do someone else some good.

    I'm quoting the figures given to her by PruHealth... I was expecting a big no claims discount at renewal, however the premium increased instead.

    Why are you so up in arms about this? No need to be so nasty about it... do you work for them or something?

    nej,

    Can you break down how your wife's premium is calculated please? i.e. what was her premium last year (before discounts)? What month was her renewal? What is her premium this year, and what discounts are applied to it?

    Last year she would have had an automatic 25% discount on the basic premium, and this year (on Silver) she should be getting 50% of last year's basic premium knocked off this year's basic premium (which would be higher due to age and inflation).

    You say last year she was paying about £17 for the health insurance. That would have been at the automatic 25%-off rate for the first year, so her basic premium for the sake of argument was about £23. This year, she'll have had an increase on this for age and inflation (let's say 10%) so basic premium for this year should be £23+£2.30=£25.30 per month. From this is subtracted (for a Silver member) 50% of last year's £23, so what she should be paying now as a premium would be £25.30-£11.50 = £13.80.

    Your figures just don't look right...

    Sorry - don't have them to hand... maybe she isn't Silver then? I thought she was, though.... she joined almost a year ago now.
