Halifax searched me for an AiP but didnt show up on ANY of my credit reports. I got rejected so they must have been able to see my defaults without leaving a search footprint...0

I don't think its an N Hunter problem as I looked at their website:
How does National HUNTER work?
Eachof our members submits details of applications that they receive for products such as mortgages, credit cards, loans etc.

Applications are checked against existing applications for inconsistencies and similarities that may indicate application fraud using a predefined set of rules. Any applications that warrant investigation are referred for further checks. No applications are automatically declined on the basis of National HUNTER information and all our members are fully audited on their use of the system on a regular basis.

The National HUNTER system is operated by Experian Decision Analytics, part of the Experian group.

We do not hold any credit scoring records, credit histories, information concerning County Court Judgements (CCJs) or bankruptcies, nor do we store Electoral Roll information. The information that is held relates only to applications made to our member organisations, and consists only of the application information supplied by the applicant(s).

I've always given the full and truthful account of our circumstances and so from what I read here N Hunter is there to catch you out if you tell one lender you earn £50k and another lender £100k etc.

I can confirm that Next search only Equifax. It would appear that most lenders use Experian. Me thinks we ought to focus on those that search Equifax alone as this would be worthwhile information. i,e let us work on fishing out the few the that use Equifax as this would be more beneficial.0

You are quite correct, they are a fraud prevention agency and are there to catch out fraudulent applications.
However what is to say that the information they hold about you is correct? Credit reference agencies are forever making mistakes and publishing all manner of inaccuracies.
If after checking your CRA files and exhausting every other avenue of research you cannot see why you are being rejected it is IMHO worth checking with N Hunter and CIFAS by making a Subject Access Request to make sure the information they hold is accurate.
But in your case you have mentioned defaults so it's fair to assume that they are your problem.
Have you looked into having them removed?

Hi sutton
I had a settled default removed a few years back which was placed by Shop Direct Financial Services.
I wrote to SDFS stating that I thought they shouldn't have recorded a default on my credit file because part of the definition of a default is that an agreement has broken down between customer and company, but I had signed no such agreement.
They wrote back saying that they would remove the default as a gesture of goodwill () because the debt collection agency they sold the debt to had referred it back to them in the wrong timescale (I have no idea what this has to do with anything!) - this of course is complete !!!!!!, they knew very well they wouldn't be able to provide a copy of the default notice had I requested it and wanted me off their case. I wasn't bothered whether they admitted being wrong or not, I got what I wanted!
I later tried to get all information they had on my credit file removed on the grounds I never consented to my information being processed in that way but they refused. Unfortunately the Information Commissioner's Office agreed with SDFS
Also, I helped a mate get rid of a default recently which had been placed by HSBC. This was as a result of them not being able to produce the paperwork but took ages (around 7 months).

I'm having the very same problem with Next (Cabot DCA) and Capital One (Robinson and Way DCA). Next haven't got a CCA, I never signed one. They haven't admitted quite yet, but they will when I take them to court.
Unfortunately Capital One have found mine which has put a spanner in the works.
So far it's take 2 months and I'm no further in getting them removed from Experian. Funnily enough they have both been removed from Equifax. Not to sure why.
I don't care if they say they are wrong or not, all I want is the same as you, for the bloody things to be removed.0
