Good, might stop you posting inane comments for five minutes. ;)

If no one minds, I'd just like to say that I haven't found this post to be in the least supportive or affirming. In fact, since reading it I've been driven to eating half a packet of chocolate biscuits.

I think that, maybe, the honorary "hugger" title should be withdrawn because I simply don't feel hugged by posts like that.

I'm going to have another biscuit now.

I know its a random question! And hard to give any kind of answers as it so far away, however I am a First Time Buyer but I am paying off my debts and saving a deposit so it wont be until 2010 when i can realistically start looking at purchasing a property.

Any ideas on where the economy or housing market will be then?

(tell me to bog off and stop being so silly at trying to predict the future if you want :p :rotfl: )

I just skated through the thread....deary me.......it wasn't too bad Amy.... but then I deal with the general public every day so I think what I see as mean and rude is different to others. What a reflection on society.

Back to yoir orig Q 2010. Debt free and a deposit, I reckon you couldn't have timed it better myself. The only snag in the plan is job security...and I don't know what you do for a living, so only you can assess that.
FWIW I guess I am going to have to make myself redundant at some point over the next 4 yrs, so working on the replacement job right now.
    Hope this helps.....

It's very hard to tell what will be happening in a couple of years' time.

I think what is clear, though, is that house prices and credit are unlikely to be much more expensive and freely available.

So paying off debt, and then saving, as you are doing, is the best option, I'd reckon.

The radio article on one of the threads on this board had an estate agent saying the best advice he could give anyone at the moment was to cut back to the bone and save every penny they can get their hands on. When the market hits bottom they will be in a good position to take advantage of the low prices.

My mother did her masters degree in the late 1960s, on the interaction between volcanoes and glaciers. So she spent quite a lot of time in Iceland, which is a handy place to study the things.

She got fed whale by her host family, and said it was horrible.

    .

My mother likened it to a bit of rubber which had been next to a rotting fish for a couple of days.
