  • I see Lakeland are organising Remoska demonstrations again. Maybe we should all meet! Turn up, wear a red carnation and a badge with our 'handle' on it!

Why do people say to put a bowl or ramekin of water in it to heat it up?

Will it explode if you don't?

    Just curious.

Sorry, before I forget... why bother with the bowl??? I have to say, having boiled a kettle for stock, I have put the remaining hot water in the Remoska (not a lot, but doesn't matter how much... I just boil as little water as possible) , stuck the lid on, switched on and let it heat up, remove lid, pour water away, and if it's too wet, simply wipe with kitchen towel, in go the ingredients etc. Don't bother wiping if I'm adding stock anyway! No need!

    Hi PP

Yep -you can leave the skins on the potatoes.. I do sometimes....
I would use the deep pan -I fill it to the top of the standard deep pan and there are only 2 of us :o :rotfl: ....although the leftovers are lovely warmed up -with fresh hm bread for the juices :D

The potatoe part will probably soften in about 30-40 mins
then add the pork -about 10 mins (depending how thick they are)
once the foil is off it will depend how browned you like them ...

ooohhh and I put the foil shiney side down, and rub with a little oil to stop the top layer sticking ;)

So I put the spuds/veg in for about 40mins then add the pork for 10 mins???....dont think it would cook enough in 10 mins....or am I wrong? I place the foil on the spuds and veg, then place the chops on top of the foil? What would happen if I placed directly on top of the spuds/veg?

    Sorry hun

No the pork is in ontop of the potatoes for 10 mins covered with the foil and then however long after you take the foil off -depending how well done you like it..
You could stick them on with the potatoes at the start -but I find that pork dries and goes stringy if cooked too long...

When the potatoes look almost cooked I put the chops directly on top without foil and cover with a little apple sauce and seasoning on each one. You can't really over cook the potatoes.

Its really trial and error but you soon get used to cooking times. I usually do layers of sliced potato, leaks, carrots, whatever I've got. Also add things like green beans later, and things which don't take too long to cook like broccoli on the top. I've got the grande and I just like to try and get everything I can in one pot.

From my limited experience with meat in the mosky, it does cook it fast.

Dont forget that the Remoska is already hot by then and I found the longest time in the cooking is waiting for the initial warmup.

The Remoska comes with a deep pan but you can buy a shallow pan. You can cook everything in the deep pan, but the idea of the shallow pan is that its not as deep therefore food is nearer the top

Ok! I geddit now. I was thinking it just meant the sides were shallower and it just sat on the bottem of the ramoska. I was thinking.. whats the point of that!! Durrrrrrrrrrrr:rotfl: what a div.:o

So, I assume it sits at the top and theres a space for cooking below it?

So what about the rack? useful? I have one in my slow cooker and have never used it. Actually it might well fit in the ramoska.

I'm glad you're getting another PP but judging by my own experience and what others have said I suspect that the clue to what happened is in your first sentence.... dinner was a little watery.... That's when mine tripped the switch after I'd ooked a watery dish for a long time and condensation got between the viewing plates.

Still haven't secided whether to send mine back though... :o
