Remoska cookers (merged)

Just cooked a large fresh turkey crown in my remoska and its turned out lovely. Only just got it in my grande and was worried because the lid was a bit raised but took less time than it said on the pack, I cooked it for just over 2 hours and on the pack it said 3 hours and 40 mins. Just thought I'd let you know in case anyone worried about trying it. (Covered the breast with streaky bacon and double layer of foil just on top to stop burning as it was touching the glass).0

Originally I got it because I was living in a very small cottage with a hob but no oven. Now we've moved and I've got a proper oven but just about the only thing I use that for is Yorkshire puddings - I still prefer the Remoska for everything else. (Yorkshires are supposed to turn out well in the Remoska but for some reason I haven't had any success).
Funnily enough, I've had problems in the oven, but my yorkshire puds turn out brilliantly in the Remoska! Do remember to use the deep pan, though! The first time I used the shallow pan ... which is when I found out that in a Remoska the puds rise A LOT.0 -
I must admit that I have been tempted by a Remoska but which one to buy? I live on my own so I suppose the baby one would be best but occasionally I have someone stay over - would the small one be suitable for two?
I think it would be good for me to have one because I hate having to use my oven - it seems wasteful when its only for me.
Any tips/recommendations from the Remoska fans would be helpful. BTW is it easy to clean?
I'm probably too late to help this poster, but perhaps someone else has the same question. We are a family of 2.5 (DD only 5) and so got the standard size. Which I've regretted ever since, because not all my pans will fit in. It would have been MUCH more flexible to have bought the Grande, even though I wouldn't have needed its full size all of the time.
It is very easy to use, and I use it lots. Would use it almost every day if I had the Grande. As it is, use it several times a week. Incidentally, it's great for bread. I used to shape the bread or put it in a loaf tin, but now I make it like a cake, shaped to the tin. It is so easy to slice that way.
If you are cooking for one, perhaps the lesson to learn from my experience would be to buy the size up from what you think you need? And get the regular size? That way, it's not huge, you can put a smaller container inside for most things, but you still have the perfect size for baking a cake, cooking for visitors, making double quantities so you have leftovers for tomorrow / freezer.
Incidentally, if anyone would like to buy my standard size remoska, PM me. Then I've got a good excuse to buy the Grande
One of our favourite dishes in the Remoska, by the way, is actually our side veg. Slice in potatoes and root veg, or our favourite - pumpkin. Sprinkle over thyme, salt and pepper. Pour over some olive oil and toss the veg in it. Switch on and leave to cook for about 40 minutes. Totally delicous, and very, very easy. Once it's cooked, it'll be less than half the size of what you put in, by the way, for judging quantities. I try to fill the pan, and give it a stir half way, as we can never get enough of the stuff - we love it. Theoretically, half a pan ought to be enough really - if we weren't so greedy for it! On the other hand, it saves on the meat! Sometimes we don't even bother with the meat, we love the veg so much ...0 -
slice the potatoes thinly? or dice them? how big ? and what other veg can you add in there?0

I bought the standard size one just before Christmas, is it worth buying the cookery book for it .I have a birthday coming up soon, so I may put that down on my 'wish list'0

Couldn't fiind the answer to this anywhere, but please point me in the right direction if I've missed it! How muchdoes the grande remoska weigh, and roughly how much do the extra bits that you need weigh? I'm thinkig of asking a friend to bring one out with me but don't want to send them too far over their luggage allowance.0

Hi all
Jackie -my mum got the recipe book with hers and has never used it yet  ... she pinches my concoctions instead :rotfl:
Jorich -Im affraid mine is the standard so I can't help you with the weight -but it might be the bulk that would be a problem...where are you?-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I'm in cyprus, the postal system is a bit hit and miss so don't want to risk having it sent out. I figured if my friend is having a free holiday then he won't mind me pinching half ofhis suitcase!0

The weight isn't too bad but in its box especially it is rather bulky. Wouldn't put into a suitcase but could possibly do it as carry on?
MarionWhen life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0 -
