Hi Zappster,

Evening All
Thought I would share this with you - had to read my gas meter today as changing gas supplier - it was read a month ago (which is when I got my remoska) and I have only used 53 units which by my reckoning is about £5. Now we havnt had the heating on, have had some baths, our shower is electric and our oven is electric but have used the remoska in place of the hob a lot and looks like we are definately making a saving.
(OH is worried that the meter is faulty!).
Zappster - I would do as Sunnyday says keep soaking0 -

I am cooking another recipe out of the moosewood cookbook but adapted to what I have got in and of course done in the remoska! Make a potato crust out of grated potato, grated onion and egg white, press into the pan and cook for about 1/2 hour. In a frying pan saute onions, garlic, pepper, courgette and squash (thats what I've got in but their recipe calls for cauli) sprinkle grated cheese on the bottom of the crust and add sauteed veg, add more grated cheese and 2 eggs with a bit of milk, more cheese. Cook. Looking good and can't wait to eat it, it is lower in fat than pastry and a good way of getting more veggies eaten.
Thanks for reminding me Desperate Housewife - a lot of the Moosewood recipes should be eminently suitable for the Remoska! Thinking of the Carrot & Mushroom one (OH's favourite), or the Mexican Pepper for a start. I'm on a train or I would get the book out right now. Hi Essex, does your meter read in M3 (cubic metres) if so, then I think that 53 units will cost a bit more than £5
On my recent Eon statement, 29 units (on the meter) cost me £12.48 + VAT.
As a rough guide, I think 1 unit on my meter is approx 50p.
The price that utility companies use for gas is based on a Kwh, there is a conversion that needs to be done to change the units on the meter into Kwh.
Also, some meters still measure in cubic feet, it will say on your meter which it is.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

Cheers for that. Unfortunately we use eco-balls in the washing machine & don't use powder. However, my OH says she can't think of a more appropriate place to put my balls than in the Remoska.
Ahem.
Will borrow some bio powder from my sis-in-law tmorro. Thanks !0 -
Hi Adrian, :A I'm plotting a little expedition to Windermere to visit Lakeland.
Do you have Remoskas and all the accessories on display to tempt me?
(think I'd better use the big car, this could be a major shopping spree)
Thanks Mrs Twit.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

Duh I did that wrong - sorry my last bill (for a quarter) was for 55 units. When I read the meter yesterday I had used 15 units since 9/8 - think in my excitement I posted wrong! So although the savings were not as much as I originally thought they have gone down and apart from using the Remoska more there is nothing else we have done differently.
Family now know that I will be turning the heating down regulary (when it comes on) they will hate me.:D0 -
Whatatwit - I can promise you that you won't regret buying a Remoska. It's one the best things I've ever bought! I wish I'd bought the rack, though, and will be ordering one soon but my advice is to get one when you buy the Remoska itself! Also, make sure you have good utensils for non-stick pans.
I've used my Remoska at least once a day almost every day since I've had it; DH has been home for the last week between jobs and I've made soup with leftovers every morning which has been great for lunch, then the Remoska goes on again for baking and then again for dinner - I'll wear the poor thing out! I've experimented with the soups and just shove everything in with a knob of butter and some stock and leave it to cook, blend when cooled and we've had enough for lunch that day and to put in the freezer. I made lentil and tomato soup yesterday and it was lovely. I do hope you buy one - I think they're a great investment and a real energy saver!
