I have a 1 Series that's had this problem since virtually new (it's a 54 116i sport). 2 new clutches, 2 new fly wheels and numerous other items later the problem is worse than ever.
Would love to hear more about this modified unit you've heard about.
Thanks.0 -
Hi folks,
Just came across this thread now and so sorry to hyjack......:o.
Anyway, 2 days ago my hubby taken his Subaru Impreza to get the timing belt done as it was slghtly overdue - not by much, so he left it with the dealer at Subaru overnight to get it done for yesterday (Friday) to collect after he finished work.
Before this there was no problems at all, the car was working brilliantly.
When the mechanic spoken to my husband on collecting the car he said when he started the car it would not start, and had to put the charger on it for about 2 hours to get it going, however when my hubby taken the car to them the day before he had to hand them the keys for them to park up overnight, before getting on with the timing belt change yesterday.
Hubby told them this is the first this have happened then as the car have been working very well, so I am wondering if it was down to them leaving anything on perhaps??
So job complete - timing belt fitted and hubby came home.
Last night hubby had popped to the shops and by half hour rang me to tell he he had broken down, my autistic son went with him for a drive the same time.
So I called out breakdown (luckily we are covered by our bank account) and the guy from breakdown put on booster system on the battery to get it going again and followed my husband home.
Today my oldest son taken hubby to get a battery for the Subaru, which is a heavy duty one suitable for the car he has, and job done.
Later in the day coming home from shopping today the engine light came on and the car started to judder on accelerating, the rev counter when running idle the rev counter needle is dropping down and coming back up.
The engine light is permanently staying on.
So just wondered if this could be slightly off due to the belt change, of why this could judder.
It cost of the timing belt was over £260.
I understand there are things like procedures to follow to reset for ECU etc which to what I know of followed when my hubby put in a new battery.
Any advice a big help, thank you.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Well, without reading eveything above, the 1 Series is on a chain... also BMW issued a recalls on them for failing...0

Hi Harvey, can you post the link to the recall for timing chains, i've looked at the VOSA site and the AA recall site, can't seem to find it. Reason i'm asking is i've got a 120i and if it's a problem i'd like it fixed before it goes, and for free of course.0

Erm, thats driver abuse, sorry. You will be one of these people who hold the car on the clutch at junctions, lights etc and creed forwards all the time.
I think cars should have a warning buzzer when being held on the clutch. Or make the drivers seat electrified or something...0 -

Why not?
They do cost a bit more to run but for the time being Im happy to pay it. I think they are great cars to drive, comfy and safe.
They just suck in the snow!0 -
Horrendous in the snow! combination of run flat tyres and rear wheel drive is dire!0

Guys post 33 is the one we should be looking at and helping with.0
