I was strangely irritated when British Gas came today to service my boiler. I have a long driveway (parking for about 4-5 cars) and my car was on the drive.

Normally when we have deliveries or callers they park in the road outside as there is plenty of room and there is little on street parking as all houses have long drives. The only people who park in my drive are family and friends and even then they ask if it's okay in case myself or OH are going out.

Anyway today I looked out of window and there is BG man reversing into my driveway. He didn't ask if it was okay as he was blocking the car in. He just didn't mention anything.

I didn't need to go out and OH had just left for work 10 minutes earlier so it wasn't a problem, but it irritated me. Blooming stupid I know:o

Superglue will come off, you might need a scraper but it will come off.

Windy day, didn't want to risk the notice blowing away.
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

If you used a scraper for superglue it could scratch the glass. If its left on there without being removed by the owner, as it would be a difficult technical job, for fear of causing more permanent damage, I believe a court would view the presence of superglue as criminal damage.

I would gladly let a contractor park on my drive if they were working for me :)
It's neighbours like the OP that would annoy...

You guy ain't gonna believe this.

I just got back from Tesco in a cab and there it was a big gold ford in my drive.
Just two days after they promised not to do it again.
The car was parked in such a bad way I couldn't get me bags in the house. I rung their bell three long times and no one answered. I squeezed pass the car and got stung several times on the ivy in my bushes. I went into my garden and had to climb over the back fence to get into their garden. I knocked on their back door as I could see they were in. I asked they very kindly if they could move it and her response was I don't know what car you are talking about. She then came outside, saw the car and went back in to get the keys. She moved the car herself and even had the cheek to comment on how bad the car was parked. I have in all my life never seen someone take so long to move a car a few feet. I was so angry and told her that if her or her friends do it again I will personally take a bat to one of her windows. I know this is illegal and I don't think I would ever stoop so low but I have truly had enough. This morning I had parked my wheelie bin in the way and they clearly moved it to be able to park. My other neighbors often have parties and ask to use our drive and I allow it as they have asked and would do the same for us. I feel so powerless in my own home. I have a photo of the car that had blocked my drive but not of any parked on my drive. I will upload it of my camera in 20mins.
Thanks everyone for all your support

when i got to work on a customers premises and they make the job i am doing for them more awkward than it needs to be they dont get the best from me,if they ask me to park my van further away than it could be just incase someone needs to move i get annoyed at this, bear in mind the guy was probably carrying his tool box, a laptop and paper work and possibly some parts, going back and forward to the van for these things all takes time, and if the van which probably has hundreds if not thousands of pounds worth of stock and tools in it is parked in the drive then its a bit safer than parking on the street.
just remember the guy isnt there to inconvenience you, he is there because you asked him to be,so make his life easier, the quicker he is finished the quicker he leaves you alone and can get to his next job.
    ...work permit granted!

BG or any other trades/delivery person has never parked on my drive before without asking. They rarely ask to park on my drive as it's not much of walk up my garden path (my drive goes down to the back of my house) and there is always parking directly outside my house. If Curry's can move a large fridge/freezer and Leekes two 3 seater sofas up from the pavement I'm sure the BG man could have managed the laptop and hoover!

He was was rude in not asking if it was okay, especially as he took over 1 hour to service my boiler and gas fire. If he had been 10 minutes earlier he would have been told to move as OH needed to get to work and his job is more important than the gasmans!

All he had to say to not irritate me was "is it okay I'm parked on your driveway?" as he could see there was a car parked there and he was blocking it in. Manners cost nothing but seem strangely absent these days.

Unbelieveable, but atleast you have bought a bollard and soon your problem will be over. I would be asking them politely, why do you keep parking on my drive?

That's an odd thing to say. He's a police officer, not a superhero!

(and gas engineers have important jobs too!)

But I agree on the irritation thing. I let my neighbours use my drive when I'm not there, but frequently notice people using it to turn around on (it's at the end of a cul de sac) which annoys the hell out of me.

I did come home one afternoon to find an ice cream van sat across the drive (it's double drive) selling to the local kids!

If it happens again trim your hedges and pile all the cuttings up in a big heap in front of their car. Make sure it's such a big heap that they have to clear your drive for you.

Seriously though they are not going to stop and are taking the michael so I would ensure that I put up the bollard after they've parked in your drive way and ensure you are out for the day/night!
