They WON'T give you a bank account if you can't tell them where you've been living for the last 3 years. You cannot get away with pretending you've been living at the same address for the last 3 years, your credit file will tell a different story.

Do you really think it's that simple to leave your credit past behind????
If there's no trace of a credit file banks will wonder why and will dig until they find out.

Short of changing your name, address, DOB (in effect taking on someone elses identity, which I believe IS fraud) you cannot escape from your past.

I think the legal term is "obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception" and correct me if I'm wrong but max sentence is 5 years, unless you were carrying a knife at the time in which case it's a slap on the wrist!

SB I am not knocking you but i am at a loss as to why you would think of going to such measures in order to open a "normal" bank account. I for one never want one. I don't want a cheque book, overdraft or debit card.I know thats me but because thats my choice and opinion i find it hard to understand what exactly you are trying to achieve by trying to hiding things:confused: D

Obtaining credit in the current climate would mean having adequate White Data or positive credit ratings.Although you may feel that no one will find out your BR then I would suggest you obtain a credit report from the likes of experian.

I think that folk dont realise that BR is a huge and last resort step to take. Some laugh and think they're walking away from problems. Make no mistake, it will affect the rest of your life.

Some of us here were fortunate that the IS were busy 2 years ago and didn't delve too deep, I was able to get a mortgage soon after, huge deposit and outrageous rate but back in the normal world now.

Things have changed and if I was facing the same crisis now I would really look for an alternative route. If only the lenders had listened rather than read from a script!!!

To the OP - this is a case of grow up. You cannot have your cake and eat it.

PepsiCharlie - your credit in (most) new countries does not follow you, so you do have the best of both worlds! In the UK though your file will still be shot to pieces if you decide to come home. I like Spain!!

Dead right, it will affect the rest of your life but surely it a positive way! I still shake my head at the numerous questions regarding cleaning credit files and getting cards and mortgages again after BR. A bankruptcy clearly should stay on record and prevent some of us from getting into deep water again.

I have NO debts anymore. Just imagine that. After all the stress and worry of the past few years I now have NO debts. I see people rushing round Tescos with barrows full of stuff they hardly need clutching wallets and purses full of plastic. They load all that stuff in new cars they're leasing or buying on the drip. Every second person you look at these days has financial stress of their own making. And according to the papers it's getting worse

I don't need further credit to live "normally" again.

I think a basic bank account with someone like Co-op where they offer internet banking with the basic account is all i would really need. I guess it might be nice to have a Debit card that was accepted in more places but so far i have not had a problem with my electron and i see myself being environmentally friendly now by not having a cheque now as i hardly ever used them and if i need to send money to someone i can just pop to the post office and get a postal order.

I want the rest of my life hassle free.
