Hi folks, I don't have this mattress, but during my seach, this name has been recommended to me several times by people who have slept on one for several years and say it's as good as new and everso comfy still! We haven't chosen our mattress yet, but I thought I'd pass this on to you all as it may help steer someone in the right direction, and it's one of the ones we're considering.

It's the Millbrook Divine 2000, and I've found the double for £355 plus about £20 for delivery from a site called Mattresses World. They have king size too.

Might be worth a look :)

I need to buy a new mattress for both my bed (metal frame one) and for my parents one but think I need to find time to read through the thread first before asking questions!

My mattress is looking rather dented as I do sit on it to watch tv in my room which I know is bad but not got much space for a chair. Keep turning it but am not sleeping well and get shoulder/back ache, did not have that on holiday last week with a nice well sprung comfy mattress!

Once Ive decluttered my room prior to getting it decorated/new carpet next month mattress buying is next on the list, Il have a read through then might be asking a few questions Tim:D

For your own mattress, from what you have said, you would be better off with a good quality open coil sprung mattress.

Turning isn't as important with open coil sprung (but should still be done occasionally). However as you use your bed to sit on to watch TV then I would suggest alternating between turning it over, and turning it around lengthways each time the bedding is changed.

Thanks Tim, Il start looking soon, Il go round some of the showrooms and look online once Ive found some that might suit. There are a number of smaller family run bed companies in the West Midlands - Ive always brought my beds from a small local company, rather than places like Dreams. I should really get a chair for tv watching.

Any ideas on makes to start looking at for a good open coil sprung double mattress.

Il sort mine and try to take parents with me so they can look as I know my Mums unhappy with their mattress - their bed is not a slatted base, but is a divan base (not sure if that is right term?)

Not sure on budgets yet but want a comfy matress that lasts!

Still not had chance to read the whole thread for ideas will try to later.

I'm not allowed to advise on makes, but you should be looking at 9" to 10" deep. Go for bonnell open coil springs, and not any continuous spring system like Miracoil etc. If you like a firmer mattress then go for 12.5 gauge springs which would last longer when being used as a seat. However don't go for firm if you prefer medium.

As for your parents, if they have a divan base, then it will be suitable for any type of mattress.
  • Hello

I recently purchased a 'Highgate Healthopaedic Silk 1000' single mattress from a local bed store, ('Paul Simon' in Swindon), and have been waking up feeling very sick in my stomache area, almost as if I had been punched in the stomache, and also experiencing pain in my pelvic region. I tried it out in the shop before I purchased for at least half an hour and it felt fine.

I am hoping to get either a replacement or refund, although they are being very difficult about it (at one stage the salesman called me a joke).

I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience with this mattress or even this store.

    Thank you.

It is quite common when changing from an old mattress that doesn't give very good support, to one that gives very good support to experience some back pain while your back gets used to the extra support. Also with memory foam if the fire retardant chemicals haven't fully dried, then there can be a strong chemical smell that makes people feel sick, and have headaches. However I have never heard of your symptoms from a mattress.

I'm wondering if the mattress could just be a coincidence, and you should go to the doctor to see if there is another cause.

Thanks again Tim - once Ive got my bedroom decorated next month Il be having a good look round for a new mattress. Plan is to try a lot of the matresses out and make a list of the ones I like the most and shop about online for best deals - will also check with the small family run company Ive had past 2 beds off as they have always been helpful in the past, and I like to support the smaller businesses. Will come down to price in the end and maybe if I take parents with me we can order 2 matresses. I tend to like medium to firm mattresses and must get a chair as feel its not good for a mattress to be used as a seat really!

    Hi,

I am looking for a king-size mattress, however I live in a flat and the problem is that the lift is simply not big enough, may I ask if anyone know whether vacuum packed mattress will fit inside a lift easily please??

If so, any suggestion on what mattress to get please?

I know that memory foam mattress will fit easily but I am actually more interested in pocket springs mattress but not sure if that would fit into the lift.

    Many thanks,

I just answered this in the other thread you posted in.

Vacuum packed mattresses tend to be lower quality. And those that do contain pocket springs aren't full size pocket springs, as they would get damaged.

Some sellers will deliver to your flat. Have you checked with any?

Thanks a lot Tim. The problem is though I live at the 20th floor or so, so if the mattress doesn't fit into the lift, then it will 20 floors worth of stairs... do you mean the seller will deliver that by stairs or will they think of a way to make it fit into the lift or so???

Also, here is the size of lift: -
Door open width - 0.78 meters
Width inside lify - 1.13 meters
    Depth - 1.35 meters
    Height - 1.97 meters

    Many thanks,
    GP
