I'm considering the Madrid and another couple of alternatives. My pine bed however i've just checked the slats and they're about 3.5-3.75" gaps between them (explains why one of them cracked once
)
I was considering upgrading the bed too from the double to a king size or larger, but the bed itself is fine, and floor space is limited so probably going to keep the bed.
I presume with that sort of spacing it would be wise to get a pegboard or something like that underneath the mattress for support. Where is the best place to get this? Places like B&Q or from the bedding store. Just thinking that presumably need to get the right size, as I dont have the work tools to cut a larger piece to size?
cheers,

Also, here is the size of lift: -
Door open width - 0.78 meters
Width inside lify - 1.13 meters
Depth - 1.35 meters
Height - 1.97 meters
Many thanks,

I should think it would just fit diagonally. The length is 198cm, and being upholstery it should squeeze in, and 152cm should fit diagonally even if they have to bend it slightly.0 -

Pegboard or hardboard is fine. two smaller sheets overlapping wouldn't be a problem.
Buy it from a DIY store, and they will often cut it to size for you.0 -

Thanks Tim, does it mean I should be able to get any king sized mattress I want?
If so, any recommendation on a comfort decent pocket spring mattress please? (king size)
Any suggestions please?
Actually i thought the lenght should be 200cm rather than 198cm??
Many thanks,

Hello all - I have read through much of this thread and would like to thank all the contributors who have furnished me with a staggering amount of knowledge re mattresses - especially Tim Deegan!
Wanting a standard double size, medium-firm, pocket sprung, double sided ok manufacturing quality I have decided upon a Kozeesleep Caversham - spec as follows (from site)
Specification...
- 1100 Pocket Sprung Unit
- Pre-Compressed Polyester
- Sumptuous Layers Of Filling
- Hypo Allergenic Properties
- Belgian Damask Cover
- Hand Tufted
- Dual Sided Mattress
- Flag Stitched Handles
- Breather Vents
- Medium-Firm Tension
- Delivery Lead Time: 1-10 Working Days
- Full Manufacturer Warranty Included
I have a slatted bed base so will be getting some peg board - can anyone comment if they have had this mattress what their opinion is? Could I have a more professional opinion on the spec/value for money if possible?
Kind regards and thank you for reading!0 -
I've been reading this thread for some time and appreciate all the helpful advice, but it would be really great if I get some views on this John Lewis mattress I've seen. I tried a few and this seems very comfortable and the best I've looked at. It's called a 'John Lewis Deluxe 1 Mattress (Double size)' and it's easily found on the John Lewis web site. It uses Revolution™ HD pocket springs and it's on offer at the moment. Thanks in advance.
Also, would anybody know who manufactures the mattress for John Lewis?0 -

I'm afraid I'm not allowed to recommend anything.
Most beds in the UK are still made to imperial measurements, which makes it 198cm.0 -
does any one know if the John Lewis Cool Quilted Mattress Protectors would fit a double La Romantica Madrid bed ok? I'm just wondering about with the bed being deeper than normal, as I'm wondering how that would compare to getting the madrid or something similar with the coolmax built into the material.....as surely it sounds a better idea to get a mattresss protector anyway, so if the coolmax stuff is in the protector it does the same job?

How about this for money saving
- we've got to share this with you all!
I'm sure all us money saving fans belong to Quidco? (If not, why not, join now!).
Well, currently two online bed retailers (KD Beds and Sleeping Solutions) are offering a HUGE 20% cashback on all purchases made via Quidco! So you'll get a fifth of the price put back in your pocket!
Speaking from our experience on the site this evening, we found the mattress we want on KD Beds site, they had a great price on it already, and then on Quidco they gave us a code to get an extra 5% off, and that's in addition to the 20% cashback we'll get. They do free delivery too. :T0 -

You need to do more research. Both the the sellers you mention are way over priced even with the Quidco discounts0
