depends on terms and conditions of the website you bought it off
i would imagine that as you have a - slept on it and b - just dont like it (ie, its not faulty) then you would be stuck with it0 -

You're probably right. I know the Distance Selling Regulations normally mean you can send things back within 7 days for no reason whatsoever, but I guess that won't work with something that you won't know if it's unsuitable until you've used it.
Tim, what happens in practice if someone doesn't like their bed after they buy it from you?0 -
If you wish to return any goods that are not faulty, then you must inform ** ** direct within 14 days of delivery (date of dispatch by courier). ** ** will then communicate with the customer to try and find a suitable alternative. However if a suitable alternative can't be found then we will issue a refund. Refunds will be issued once the goods have been returned to the factory for inspection. If goods have been damaged by the customer, then no refund will be given.

Operator: Sarah UserMessageSystem (15:49)13862833System (15:49)SpecialistSystem (15:49)Ref2: Sarah (15:49):Hi, thanks for contacting IKEA! My name is Sarah, how can I help?.User (15:52):hello sarah i have been chatting with christopher and have still no received the answer to my question, after a returned matress is visually checked, how is the decision then made to provide a replacement under the 25 year guarantee? i have an ikea matress that is less than two years ols that LOOKS comfy but is NOTUser (15:52):it was very comfy when i bought itSarah (15:53):theyw ill do a series of tests on the mattress while you there then deem it either afulty or not,User (15:55):is feeling the springs faulty?Sarah (15:58):im not sure how they do it in store as i''ve not seen it.User (15:59):i will wait till you ask someone who knowsSarah (16:00):i''m not based at the store you will need to call.User (16:04):i would prefer an emailed response from ikea my email is tracyandhercamera@yahoo.co.uk again i am asking ikea and not you personally sarah, thank you for your help so far, i await the email response.Sarah (16:05):whats is it your actually wanting to know?User (16:10):details of exactly how you deem a matress faulty under your 25 year guarantee, does this covver the comfort of a matress as well as the manufacturing standard. i have a matress that is under two years old and is too uncomfortable to now use i want to know exactly the returns policy and how you deem a matress faulty. i have been through this with christopher i have saved all transcripts, i am sure you have. its quite simple, i bought a 25 year guarantee matress and two yearslater it is not comfy to sleep on, i feel the springs, is this what you would describe as a faulty matress?Sarah (16:11):do you still have your receipt?User (16:13):no i am not looking for a replacement for my existing matress as i do not have the guarantee. i am asking if i buy another matress to go with the base i bought from you also and if after two years again it is not comfortable will you replace it, is it worth me coming back to you as a customer?User (16:15):i just see a 23 year difference after experiencing one of your matresses and feel the guarantee is a bit misleadingSarah (16:17):we will replace items within the guarentee as long as the customer keeps there receipt/guarentee. The store normally either send someone out to look at the mattess/bed base or they run a series of test if customers take them to the store.Sarah (16:18):i cant possible say would they would do as it all depends on the fault they find with the mattress, the length of time the customer has it etc.User (16:19):how long do you expect the comfort of your matresses to lastSarah (16:22):i couldnt say comment on that as there is no given timescale.Sarah (16:22):IKEA run test on all mattress''s before they are distributed and they doe this on quailty.User (16:23):then how did ikea come up with the 25 years?User (16:23):if there is no given timescaleSarah (16:25):again i cant really comment on why they have given 25 years as i dont make the poilcys upm, but it goves a good peice of mind to customersUser (16:27):the 23 year difference between my expectations as a customer after seeing the adverts showing intensive testing and my own personal experience does not give me any peace of mindUser (16:29):the peace of mind lasted 18 months a bit misleading if you ask meSarah (16:29):if your had your receipt/proof pf purchase then there could have been something done for you, in regards to either a exchange or refundUser (16:31):i know but i did have faith in your product, i have now seen the light as it wereUser (16:32):thanks sarah, please pass on the details of this transcript as i still expect an email detailing the guarantee before i make any other purchase from ikeaSarah (16:33):for a email you would need to email customer.service@memo.ikea.com and they will be able to arrange that for you.User (16:36):ok thank you
make your own mind up folks but i feel their 25 year guarantee is pretty worthless, still the stitching im sure will be perfect when you take it to the tip a year or two after you buy it!

and just wondered if i would need a new divan base or not0 -
I appreciate that you may be trying to help but some of your advice in the past has been proved wrong by test results and it conflicts with advice from independent sources.
My advice is based on some experience, but mostly it is based on test results and advice from independent sources.
What independent sources do you cite for your claim that 65kg/m3 density and 5cm thickness memory foam is best?
The only source you are using for that is YOURSELF. Not a good idea when you sell mattresses for a living.
Yes, the site that recommended a minimum of 7cm is an independent advice site, not linked to any one manufacturer or mattress seller.
I was not trying to suggest a 100kg/m3, density as that is too high. 85 kg/m3 should be the ideal density or thereabouts. There are exceptions but, on the whole, a mattress with an 80kg/m3 density is higher quality to one with 65 kg/m3 density. I am using independent source to back up my claim. Also some reviews of such mattresses that I've mentioned before also back up this claim.
It is actually almost all of your posts have been wrong, and your stats are based on advice from web sites run by manufacturers and retailers.
I have done a huge amount of research on a professional basis, where I actually get told the truth by manufacturers rather than being given the sales hype and propoganda that you have quoted.
You have proved that you actually know very very little on the subject, and are only in this thread because yet again you have been stalking me to try and discredit me.
I thought it might be a good time to quote this:Hi everybody.
Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.
What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.
If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.
what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?
firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.
The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!
It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis
PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.
Kind wishes

smartpicture wrote: »If you buy a bed or mattress online, then when you try it it makes you too hot or gives you backache or is generally uncomfortable, are you stuck with it or do you have any rights to return it?
Technically you do have rights under distance selling regs, but some retailers would make you pay the return postage, and some try to get out of accepting it back once opened. However there are some who do give a satisfaction guarantee, and don't charge return postage, so read the terms and conditions very carefully.0 -
what does 'sprung edge' mean i am looking at a la romantica adora double open sprung bed and one of the options is either platform base or sprung edge. does sprung edge mean where there are springs in the base of the divan and platform is without them?
Sprung edge means there is a layer of springs in the top of the base, and platform top means the base has a hard top.0 -
Are the bases generally open coil or something completely different?0
