HI i have read throught eh extensivve advice on here and realise our miracoil mattress now 2 yrs old was not a wise buy and it has now sagged terribly - causing me back pain (i'm in the ancient 'slumberland postureseal' spare bed atm)! we have a metal framed wooden slatted base on our bed and i was considering just buying a new matress as we use the gap under it for storage i realise we need a turnable matress this time! i had looked at mattress like the la romantics 'madrid' and wondered if they would be ok on a slatted base or not? if not, what type would be or should i bite the bullet and look for a whole new bed? i would rather not spend over £500 all in but am rather confussed....
any thoughts welcomed

I'm somewhat concerned by the fact that there is, and will be, a dartboard over my bed. This leads to people kneeling on the edge to retrieve their darts, and this is with a standard single. Is this likely to have a major impact on the life of a bed?
I guess if I went for a wider bed, as seems likely, there will be less kneeling directly on the edge as you'd have more to climb over. xD
It depends on how much you play darts.
Just make sure you turn it on a regular basis so that it isn't just one part of the mattress that takes all the abuse.0 -
I'm in need of a new king size mattress and have been looking on the argos website, (i have a gift voucher for nearly £190 for there and can't really afford tospend more than that) and have come accross a couple of airsprung mattresses that are half price so while i'm very tempted to buy alarm bells are ringing as am thinking there is a reason they have reduced them so much...any help please?
Or does anyone have any other recommendations (from argos tho)

If you think it will be OK though, that's reassuring. I do plan on turning it regularly.0 -
Thanks slats look to be about 2" appart so am just keen to get shopping and get a good nights sleep in the same bed as hubby - the 'knackered' old mattress doesnt seem to affect him the same! (mind you teh children seem to leave me alone hiding in the spare room!) lol
Will show him the 'madrid' when he gets home xxx0 -
I would suggest that the Mirage would be too soft for you but ultimately it's for you to decide. Do you know what type mattress you have already?
Ok thanks for that, without checking the brand a small co, it was an orthopedic one with open coil and it is filled what feels like cement. These two mattresses started out as 'specials' but Millbrook have kept them going, so have obviously proved popular and are only avaialble in the popular sizes. Sometimes their catalogue models may have even more ingredients, maybe offered in a choice of spring tension and will also be available in custom sizes.
I see so if I can get the Vista for under £400.00 its not a bad deal but just a case of yer pays yer money etc0 -

They may be half Argos's normally expensive price, but they both seem to be middle of the range open coil sprung mattresses. Even with the reduction they are both still a little over priced, but if you have a voucher, then you would be better off going for the Airsprung rather than some of the other brands they sell.
Argos only usually reduce items when they are end of range.0 -

The Vista has far too many springs. To fit so many springs in a mattress they have to be very small and can get damaged very easily.
I usually recommend between 1000 and 1800 in a king size mattress.0 -
I have been reading my way through the posts here for a few weeks now and have come to the conclusion that mattresses are mostly individual choice, but I definitely need some help making that decision.
I want a double mattress to go on a metal bed with wide spaced slats (I will buy a board to put on top of these)
My mattress now is way to hard for me. Great for my husband as he is built like a pole, but I need a bit of give! I don't want anything too soft as I also need support and am used to the plank mattress we now have!
I will be sharing the bed with my daughter who is 18 months, to get her used to sleeping in a bed in the right room, but will be bed hopping from there to my own room!
I spent the day in John Lewis laying on various mattresses but they all felt too soft and cosy. Our Mattress is cold and firm and I like the coolness of it (no memory foam for me!) All of these were warm and soft and bouncy.
I have looked at a few and I wonder if could tell me if they are good brands, too soft/hard and which you think is best?
Kozeesleep Caversham
Simmons Bedstead 1000 Mattress (one site says firm, another medium?)
Pocketmaster 1000
Is there another manufacturer anyone can recommend. I don't really know any small independent manufacturers. I don't want to spend more than £350 as It will eventually be my daughter's bed.
Can anyone help?

Tim, I have noticed you make this comment regularly and I am intrigued as to how they get 'damaged'. I have been selling pocket spring mattresses for more years than I care to remember and I have genuinely never heard of this until I came on here.0
