500% mark up! I need to get a job with one these retailers, I could earn a fortune.

Yeah I know, shocking isn't it. It would be good to be able to charge that much.

A good quality mattress will have layers of fillings, but a cheap one may have fewer layers that are individually deeper, and can go lumpy...........who told you that anyway?
I've just read it in a few mattress guides. Maybe they're only looking at cheaper beds or trying to push thinner, inferior products.

With a 10.5" pocket spring mattress how many layers would you expect? Is there a simple formula e.g. for every inch above, say 6" you need n number of layers (please say there's a simple formula! :wall:)?

I'm afraid there isn't a simple formula. Most retailers probably wouldn't know how many layers are in the mattresses they sell anyway.

It's usually only the expensive makes that will go into any great detail about what fillings are inside their mattresses and even then it probably won't list everything.
  • I feared as much.

Hi, am new, have just read your thread and had to reply as we are having exactly the same with our sensaform bed. Am also in contact with Trading Standards and the Financial Ombudsman, who are putting us in touch with Black Horse Finance who can help with your claim if you bought it on credit. a lot of negative reports re sleepmasters on this site. Good luck to you .

I too have contacted Trading standards and they have recommended contacting Black Horse, which I am planning to do this week. My response from Sleepmasters is that they only give one year guarantee on mattresses, quite funny as the photo I have taken of the mattress clearly shows 5 years - if anyone knows how to post a photo let me know.

Thanks for your post and we will keep in touch and see if we can beat Sleepmasters at their own game.:T

    Who manufactures the mattress?

All goods should have a design life. So even if the actual guarantee is 12 months, the manufacturer should still pay towards the cost of replacement within the design life. This is usually done on a sliding scale.

It is more likely to be the reflex foam that has gone soft rather than the memory foam. However the reflex foam supports the memory foam on top, so appearances my be misleading.

The label on the mattress on states Sleepmaster concept however it clearly states 5 year guarantee which is quite interesting when they have just written to me to tell me it is 12 months.

I have taken photo of the label if that helps you decipher who manufactures for sleepmaster.

    Hi all,

    A quick question:

After buying a silentnight orthopedic bed 4 draw king size divan bed from Argos last August the mattress is now shot! It creaks and provides no support. I have spoken to Argos and they said i can either choose a new mattress (£223) or a new divan bed (£430). I think I am going to go for a new divan set and it won't be a silent night one! 6 months is hardly any time for the mattress to be this bad.

So, for £430 would you choose a sealy bed, an air sprung bed, a layezee bed or another silent night, it has to be from Argos so was wondering on anyone's thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

Sealy and Layzee are actually the same company as Silentnight (as are Rest Assured and the Pocket Spring Bed Company). So it might be advisable to go for another brand.

Ah I never knew that! Thanks for telling me!

Do you think this set would last and be comfy?
