Does anyone know who makes the beds for tesco?
They have some finest 2400 pocket sprung ones half price, and am quite interested.0 -
I would be interested in some advice on what type of bed I should get. I am sleeping on a pocket sprung (King Size 1200) bed without foam. It’s called Kensington by The Thames Bedding Company and I am sure it is good quality but it’s very firm. I sleep very well and feel comfortable in the bed but there is something weird going on.
I have worked out that unless I lie on my back the entire night, I get all sorts of stiffness and pains during the following day. Likewise if I lie on the bed reading for half an hour I feel very creaky when I get up. I don’t think this is a problem of my back: I am in good condition and not overweight. Lying on a sofa to read doesn't give me any trouble. I think the problem is that the bed is so firm it doesn’t deform much so all the weight is taken in a few places.
It’s difficult to choose a mattress because I don’t feel uncomfortable while lying on it. It sounds like I should just get a softer pocket sprung mattress, but what should I ask for - soft, medium? Should I get memory foam?0 -

If your mattress is in good condition then you could consider buying a memory foam topper. I found a few pretty good quality ones inexpensively on ebay. I had a memory foam topper for two years on top of a very firm mattress. When the topper needed to be replaced (inferior density foam) we tried to sleep on the mattress alone but found it far too firm for us (and we like firm).
Anyway just a thought. If at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.0 -
nemmernossage wrote: »Hello, my name is Emma and I desperately need a new double mattress. My budget is almost zero, as I am a skint Student Nurse who has just had to buy a replacement car - £375!! , and so cheap cheap cheap is what I need. I don't have any special requirements (e.g. orthapedic or whatever) but just need a nice new mattress that doesn't sag in the middle and give me backache.
I have phoned a local company who said that the cheapest they could offer me was £120 inc. delivery. I unfortunately don't have £120, However what I do have is £30 of Argos vouchers saved up and approx. £2.50 in nectar points that I could spend in Argos.
I have looked at the "Cloud 9 Sprung", £93.79 inc postage, and the "Cloud 9 Riga medium", 103.69, which are both on p833 of the new catalogue.
I am also slightly tempted by the "spend over £90 and pay nothing for 3 months" thingy, although what my finances will be like in 3 months is uncertain (complicated student finance things that I won't go into here.).
Please can someone advise me:
-what these mattresses are like
-if a cheaper alternative is available
Thanks in advance,
Emma.
Have you tried freecycle?0 -
Hi - I hope I'm posting in the right place?
I have read many of the comments relating to memory foam mattresses, especially those by Tim Deegan, very useful and thank you.
It would seem the Verona II ticks most of the boxes relating to specifications and the price is reasonable.
Can anyone comment on this particular mattress (good and bad points) or direction to something more suitable. Or perhaps I've missed the point completely!!
These forums are invaluable, its all about community.
Cheers

I'm thinking of getting a "proper" mattress now actually to be honest. Dunno if this one is any good for the time being until I decide/can afford on going for either a higher quality or memory foam
Your comments and my post seem to be out of sync here? I was talking about a support layer that goes underneath the mattress.0 -
Tim, I am interested in your comment on my post half a dozen higher up.
You said in an earlier post that memory foam was best for people who liked a firm mattress. As I clearly need something softer, should I just go for a soft or medium pocket sprung mattress?0 -
Hi Tim,
Have found a lovely bed and have had a look around to see if I can get it cheaper anywhere, but noone else seems to stock it. Do you know of any other stockists and more importantly, cheaper!?
Thanks

That is way over priced. The brass version of that bed is available for around £200, so I'm sure the chrome one should also be available for the same price if not cheaper.0 -
Hi Bargainbagger
Yes I did call La Romantica as you say not easy to find their number, and they said they only supply to Bedlum Beds, which has concerned me as I haven't read anyway in this forum that this bed is only made to Tim's company. I would like to try before I buy, and it does seem a good price compared to beds in the shops but I can't any reviews on 2 sided memory foam pocket spring beds. I am hoping someone who bought one a couple of years ago from this forum will give us an update, don't suppose there is a way to prompt them.
Will you be ordering one?
Hi again tina4273
I'm thinking the same as you and it seems from his excellent summary that philjp0 has the same problem. I would like to try first and/or get feedback from someone(other than TD!) who has used a La Romantica Madrid or Venice for more than just a week or two.
To this end I've just done a trawl through the 100 odd pages of this thread
- that actually only go back about 6 months - to find references to these mattresses by members. Perhaps we could contact them by private message/direct email if this posting doesn't provoke a response from them?
This is what I've found............
10/8/08 - StormFusion was enquiring about the price of the Madrid.
17/8/08 - walke_mr asked TD re merits of the Venice over the Madrid.
06/9/08 - Wistful interested in Venice, but then seemed to consider others.
22/9/08 - Slipthru had just got a Madrid and recommended it.
22/9/8 - loulou41 interested in Madrid/Venice,asked Wistful for feedback. (Ignore - subsequently posted that bought a Slumberland.)
13/10/08 - Broke-Bloke had Venice for a month and recommended it.
19/10/08 - newbuyer decided to go for Venice.
19/10/08 - Wistful asked newbuyer to post what he thought of Venice.
7/11/08 - buss had just got a Madrid saying nicest slept on and quality.
7/11/08 - Decola ordered Madrid after reading buss posting.
14/11/08 - aligreg thinks will go for Madrid.
24/11/08 - siosio had got Venice and very happy with it.
6/12/08 - sanfly has name of a supplier in Hampshire who had Madrid &
Venice in stock but didn't know if he was allowed to post name.
11/12/08 -misterfish bought Madrid 4 weeks ago - glowing recommendation.
Certainly it would be good if we could find out the name of the Hampshire stockist from sanfly.0 -

And I don't understand all this density stuff, I've seen one at 2.5cm thick and 5lb density, is that good or what?
You need to be looking for 2" (5cm) depth. They only use imperial densities in America (or if they are trying to misslead). You need to be looking for 60 to 70kg per m3.0
