  • Hi again...

Here's one online reseller that has a price guarantee and they also stock the relyon brand. These two seem to be in my price range:

    http://www.justclickbeds.com/docs/relyon-mattress-Luxury%201000.html

Would those two be considered good (for what they are) and good value?

Relyon aren't what they used to be. I'm not saying that they aren't any good, but they aren't anything special either.

It took me about 3 mins to find those models for less money. The web site in the links was a bit misleading because they don't tell you that there is an extra delivery charge until you get to the checkout.

Try staying away from the big brands if you want more for your money.

It's not a bad price for a Harrison (they are normally over priced), especially from a shop. Is it ex display?

No, the Harrison Classic would be from a factory & take 4-6 weeks from ordering. We had wanted it for Christmas, but as it will take sooo long from ordering, we are thinking of holding off & see if it is reduced further in the Jan sales, before we put the order in.

I considered a Harrison when I recently bought my new mattress, very comfy...but my parents bought one fairly recently and to cut a long story short it folded in the middle and they had quite a job to get Harrison to agree there was a problem. A couple of months and quite a few phone calls and they eventually got it replaced (and even upgraded) for nothing. That was enough to put me off, but the fact they eventually got it upgraded makes me think the hassle they had was more staff attitude than brand issues. I'd still feel confident buying one now, even with the troubles they had...

    HTH :)

  • We've always found buying a mattress a frustrating experience. In the past we've been to various showrooms to look at and lay on display examples before buying. In retrospect this has inevitably been a waste of time and effort as what can at best be a perfunctory test and examination has given little useful information other than an idea of firmness and a superficial indication of quality, especially as the construction is hidden from view.

So when we recently needed a new mattress we tried searching on the web but found little dispassionate advice and only a few meaningful comments. Then we came across this thread on the MSE forums (we hadn't even thought to look here even though we've been registered for years). Anyway it was a breath of fresh air to find intelligent comments as well as advice proffered by a few people that are clearly knowledgable.

After some deliberation we finally decided to go for a pocket spring mattress with a memory foam covering and after reading the various comments decided a few weeks ago to buy a La Romantica 'Madrid'. We now think it is worthwhile to add our comments about the mattress itself and the purchase process itself.

After a search for suppliers we ended up buying the king size from Bedlum Beds on Ebay. We've bought a fair few things from Ebay sellers and I'm pleased to report this was one of our best experiences. Decent quick communication and delivery (by a couple of cheerful delivery guys) was when promised - including phoning us during the previous weekend to make sure we would be in. As for the mattress itself it is all that we hoped it would be - comfortable, supporting and not too warm and we are both sleeping better than previously. The only other comment we would make is that after unpacking it had a slight 'new mattress' type smell that took a few days to dissipate, but this was only superficial.

I think that our feelings are best summed up by saying that when we have finished refurbishing our guest bedroom we intend to buy another of these mattresses from the same supplier.

Let me make it clear - we have no axe to grind with regards to this purchase and are not associated with any bed vendor, we just like to leave praise when it's due and not just criticism when we encounter problems. In this case the vendor more than fulfilled our expectations in terms of service and the quality of the goods.

If you're in the market for a new mattress or bed then we suggest you spend an hour or so going through this thread where there is excellent advice and information. Then if you have questions or doubts post in this thread and you will get helpful answers.

Perhaps for the sake of forum ettiquette, remove the link, just in case it's percieved as advertising...glad you've found a decent mattress and were pleased with the service provided though :)

Done as suggested. Though we both think that good service should be commented on as well as complaints.
