Virgin Media Retention thread

Hi,
I've been speaking to Virgin Media Retentions this afternoon. I truly believe that being friendly and polite is the best negotiating tool you have. I used to work for a retentions department elsewhere, years ago and although I always had to hit targets to save people who wanted to cancel, I was always more likely to go that extra mile with a pleasant, friendly but none cheesey customer! Today I was well equipped with comparable packages ready when they then said "no actually Sky probably just offered you basic packages and BT don't offer you the TV choice we do and the price is the same". In a very friendly but confidently manner I came back with actually...BT's price is considerably cheaper and I'm not so bothered by the TV channels but their infinity broadband is on par with Virgin speed now" he listened more after that as I think he thought initially he would just try to talk me round. Technically it wasn't totally true what I said, only in that I am interested in keeping the extra TV channels and I said I have spoken to BT and Sky rather than looking online. I think it makes it look like you've made real enquiries and have asked the questions of these providers you needed and didn't just take the flashing TV advert as gospel.
My current deal was:
30MB broadband (which I ran tests on and I'm getting 36MBps average - Soon to be 50MB)
M+ TV Package
M Phone Package
0845/0870 calls free
calls to mobiles 10p per min
Offered Me:
Same deal as above for £31.99 for next 6months, followed by 6 months at £36.99.
I was also offered less per month if I reduced the TV package to M. Or £4.60 extra per month to add on Free Evening calls to landlines between 1900-0700 but I declined.
I think this was a good enough deal and I agreed to stay, not as good as some people have been offered on here but I'm happy.
I hope this info helps some one else. Do 10mins research, get your info ready, be friendly, don't let them try to talk you around with facts when you've checked competitors already and then a 5min conversation could save you decent money every month.
That money is always better in your pocket than in theirs, give it a go!0 -
Hi all,
Some useful info;
I just contacted VMedia retentions;
Currently have
20Mb Broadband &
Phone. which is £25/mth before next months £2 or £3 hike.
quoted the MSE Sky deal (£12.70/mth) was initaily offered a continuation of my current price for another 12 months, which I turned down.
I was next offered £8.50/mth 30Mb broadband & 12 months phone for £120 (£10/mth) giving me a total of £18.50/mth for the next 12 months, luckily was 'upgraded' to a super hub yesterday after my modem died.
Hope useful for other V Media customers, haggle, do not take their price hike!!
Rgds

This is the same with the majority of them. They know that they've lost you for 12-18 months if you leave...0

Just completed the annual fun and games with Virgin retentions.
My package- XL Tivo TV (500mb) + additional standard box, 30mb BB, M Phone.
A year ago I agreed this package for £32.50 + £120 for the line rental saver, so effectively £42.50.
This increased in December to £55 after the deal ended.
I rang Virgin retentions 20th Jan to agree a new deal - they offered £50.99 and informed me of the February £3/month price hike, 'You will be better off, Sir.' How generous, £1.01 'better off,' i thought! The gentleman I spoke to was unable to budge on this, so I gave my notice...
Today, I have received the retentions call, 8 days after I gave notice. FYI, this is the number they rang me from 0800 0522160.
I was offered the above package for £40+£120 line saver i.e. £50/month. 'No, same deal as before including your future price increases or I will leave' - 'I cannot agree that, please hold and I will speak to my manager,' that old chesnut!! 'Mr Rostafa, if you pay the line saver now, we can agree that deal.'
Wonderful, job done until Jan 2015.
As always, I am perfectly happy to leave Virgin for one of their competitors as there are similar deals available, not the end of the world, though I am perfectly happy with Virgin and could do with out the aggrivation. This is the important part,-you need to be prepared to leave them if you are one of the unfortunate one's I have read of that does not get a call back. I have been doing this every year since Virgin took over, 7 odd years ago, and prior to this when it was Telewest/NTL. It is unfortunate that this is the way we have to deal with such firms now considering the loyalty, but, sadly it is the only way and it has never failed me, never!
Good Luck :-)0 -
Watch out!
Even if you have hammered out a good deal with V.M. chances are the next bill will increase without your consent.
after having had virgins phones and broadband since they started, I was dismayed to hear the threats and lies from there disconnection rep. (it will cost you £150 to leave and you will lose your email address and your phone number) I am glad I insisted on a six months non- committal trial two months ago when I negotiated my new deal having repeatedly had to challenge the increasing charges last time, after being informed of this and the fact that V.M. has no say in my email domain and that I want the land line cut off anyway, she wavered the fee and then set about trying to convince me to take a new contract on.
The crunch is on and I am having to seek out the best deals on all my services. Its a shame that agreements are so easily broken and once great company's have sunk so low, it only makes finding a decent provider more difficult.0 -

Switch to 60mg for a month. Once you have received your hub2, downgrade.''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0
