dial 150, select the thinking of leaving option, be polite, say what you want and what you expect...stick to your guns and they should offer the VIP package
Thanks. After a good while going over my bills and observing I have been paying over the odds for several months (they washed thier hands of that one as the onus is apparently on me to keep an eye on that*) they offered me the VIP package with a 250 minutes mobile phone add-on (I have to call mobiles a lot) for less than I am paying now (£103.90 p/m including £13.90 line rental). I figured I'm getting about £10 in discount with the additional phone stuff taken into accont.
As it's the full monte, TIVO, extra V-HD box (which I've been after for a while) All SKY HD channels, 100m/bit BB, Superhub and so on, I decided to accept that, though they would not budge on the installation fee for the TIVO box, even when I said "Ok, I want to cancel and leave if I have to pay that".
* I was on XL (20) broadband, even though XL has long since past the old 20mb service from what I can see....but as I had not got on to them to change it there's nowt I can do about paying over the odds for it, and I was apparently getting an additional discount because I had that specific service as well...apparently. I had also been paying £2 more each month for the base TV package before all the add-ons for the same reason....Allegedly that £108.95p I was paying included a £20 discount...
Hmmm...The bills certainly made none of that clear, that's for damn sure.
Anyways, lesson learned: Check prediodicly to make sure you aint getting stiffed, as they certainly will not tell you.0 -

they dont have to tell you, but if you had gone through with cancellation I would almost guarantee you would get your install fee free - you just have to go through with it and if they dont call then cancel within 30 days of the request...0 -
VM customer for approx 8 years. Was on following deal.....:(
20 Meg Broadband
2 x V+ HD Boxes
TV XL
M phone
Caller display
All for £57.50/month. Saw the new Premier collection in paper so called them saying I feel neglected as an existing customer and feel like I'm sat in the VM cheap seats. Said I was looking seriously at sky/BT.
Very nice chap in retentions said he understood my irritation and frustration that new customers seem to get all the best deals. This is what he sorted out for me...............
60 Meg Broadband with free superhub upgrade
Swap 1 V+ for a 500gb TiVo box totally free (keep 2nd V+ Box)
M Phone as before
TV XL
Caller display (now the free version)
So basically, as before but now with a TiVo and 60 meg upgrade and guess what he also reduced my monthly bill to £46.90 (he kept my loyalty discount of £12 on for another 2 years)
No installation/activation fees whatsoever. Installation date this Friday. Result me thinks. Thats a lot of services for £46.90
Hats off to VM. :j0 -
Just to follow up to my post a while back (below) - originally I got a retention deal due to the price increase where my speed would not be doubling but I would be getting the package cheaper. I specifically asked on the phone call if my free spotify would continue and was told it would.
So at some point after my 'upgrade date' I discoverd that spotify mobile had stopped working (it was previously linked until June). I logged in to my virgin media and found that they had dropped me down to broadband 'L' and had a message about speed doubling (which is clearly how they facilitated the no-doubling thing). Therefore my spotify account had been unlinked.
I sent off a complaint yesterday, including the wording from the website where it says you can get free spotify on 30Mbit packages - which my new package is, even though I'm on L.
Result today - got a phone call to say I'm right, apologised and given a free upgrade to 60Mb so I can get a new spotify trial! Bargain! specially since the doubling here is not due until sometime towards the end of the year or into next year.
So my package now is
XL broadband
XL Tv + Tivo
M Phone
£47.90 / mo (and my last bill was -£7.50 due to the retention deal)
Good service from VM todayyes I was a bit dubious about that one as well because I don't know if they really have the facility to drop customers back a package when they get the upgrade... but for me, it really doesn't make any difference because my upgrade is at least 12 months away at which point I can cancel again - so I don't mind getting a discount for nothing really!
Just to add to that, my package online is now showing as XL TV and XL Broadband (previously L and XL), I don't actually have the extra channels yet, on "track my orders" it says:
I'm being upgraded on:
April 6
Friday 6th April
so presumably that's how they're giving me a specific package price without any increase happening.0 -
could you copy and paste this info mate please0

Need some help:
After 3 months of problems with Virgin media i was given a few upgrades as way of an apology - so my service was:
XL 30mb broadband (this was originally 20mb but was upgraded free of charge to 30mb and will automatically be upgraded to 60mb when they start the free upgrades in october)
M+ TV
XL Phone (this was the L package, but i was upgraded to XL free of charge as i used the phone frequently at 6pm at night)
500GB Tivo (this Tivo box was given to us as a free upgrade due to the 3 months of problems we'd had with virgin media)
For the above i paid £42.90 per month. When the Tivo box was installed i took advantage of their 3 months half price TV upgrade and kept everything else the same, but upgraded to the L TV (my monthly bill was then £44)
I telephoned yesterday to ask if there were any deals which would allow me to keep the L tv package without my bill going up - was told no deals available and i would have to downgrade back to M+ TV.
I asked how much my monthly bill would be after the downgrade and was told shockingly that my new monthly bill would be £50.50 - an £8.00 increase due to downgrading!!! - told them i wasn't happy so they had to arrange a call back. No call back came and i contacted them again and was told if i downgrade to the M+ package they could give me a £5.00 additional discount on my bill (keeping the same additional services and putting my package back to what i had back in feb) - my new bill would be a £5.00 saving - £37.90 per month (XL 30mb BB, M+ TV, Tivo, and XL phone)
Phoned them due to a bill discrepency and was told an error had been made in my new bill amount and the total for the above services were down as being £69.
I called cancellations this morning, explaining that' id like to leave -was shocked to find that their way of sorting out the monthly payment error was to put me on the L BB service (so i lost my free 60MB upgrade in october)
Best calcellations could do was 60mb BB, L TV Tivo, XL phone was an increase from my new £37.90 - to £49.90 - after much faffing im now on: 60MB BB, M+TV, XL phone, Tivo = £42.90
Any ideas how i can bring this amount down. My problem is that yesterday my bill had been bought down to £37.90 for effectively the same service they have put me on for now at£42.90?0 -
I just had some success with these guys.
I was on XL phone and M broadband (10MB), i don't use their TV.
I was paying £33 a month.
I called them and told them i could cut my bill in half if i switched to sky (after £60 cash back).
They cut my bill from £33 to £30 and upgraded my BB to 60MB, they are sending an engineer out next week with a superhub free of chargeVery happy
My advice is, know your bill inside out and know what the best deal on the market for you is, be polite and don't threaten to leave just say you want to know what they can do to be more competitive.0
