Arrghh, I need dollars for going to Disneyworld in a week. Had planned to get one of the those pre-paid cards but didn't realise I had to give it a week to 10 days for delivery- just expected to get it within a couple of days. (This was for FairFx, are any others quicker?)

Is my only option left to get cash/travellers cheques?

If you need US$ then how does a Prepaid US$ card help you?

In your case, I would consider the my Travel Cash Multi-Currency Card as better value. They claim delivery of between 1 to 3 days if you top up £700 or more. Even with their 2.99% deduction from the current US$1.515 rate, at US$1.4697 you will be ahead of the current rates being offered on US$ cards currently. Plus, you have your 1% cashback on spends to come, as well as no concerns about re-converting left over cash. Plus another £5 via Quidco.

Of course none of this replaces the security of knowing that you already have a card in your hand. :)

Hi, I'm planning on travelling round SE Asia later this year for 6 - 8 weeks, and after reading many articles about travel money, I'm still none the wiser as to what I should do about having money out there. I obviously don't want to be carrying hundreds of pounds of money round with me, yet I don't currently have any credit cards and am most likely not going to be able to get one/ don't really want to get one as I have no need for one. The prepaid cards only seemed to talk about euros or dollars, so what would be the best way for Asia, especially as I'm planing on going through different countries? Thanks!

More information: planning to visit Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos if this makes any difference.

You can get pre-paid cards in pounds too.

But I won't be needing pounds? Sorry if I've misunderstood, but I really don't understand the system, the article's on here don't really make much sense about what pre-paid cards can do if you want, for example, Thai Baht, and also to be able to take money out with them.

The cards are in ££. You take out Thai baht at the ATM and the bank converts it into ££.

Same with most currencies - cards are available in $$ and euros, for example, but not for a lot of less common currencies.

Halifax Clarity. Preload it before you go or clear it as you go.

No need for a pre-paid card.

Yes and in general it's better value to get the cards in £, plus if you have money left over you can just withdraw it in £ rather than having to pay conversion fees twice.
  • Hi all

I'm going to Turkey in August..can you give advice about money?I don't really want to take £1000 cash and change over there!

Understand I can get a Halifax Clarity but I get charged interest from the time I withdraw? Should I use internet banking to clear whatever I withdraw? Would I be withdrawing GBP or TL?

If it's just best to take the cash and exchange over there and not much benefit in a CC, I can do that..

    Recommendations please :)

    Thank you!
