i am going away in a couple of weeks and was thinkng about taking travellers cheques/cash..
I dont really want to get a credit card as i am slack and from what i understand, its not free to take money out on any debit/credit card?
Where is the best place to get travellers cheques from? Money is covered in the travelmax app but not travellers cheques. Please help!0 -
...............It is a lot cheaper and easier than travellers cheques though, to use plastic.
The only real problem is arriving at a third world port of entry in the early hours of the morning and being paid by the ATM in notes that represent a day's pay for the guy with the broom.0 -
I am off to the US/Caribbean next week and not sure what to do. Have around £2000 to change up and wondering if i should do part cash/part currency card. Are they good? Anyone had any bad experiences of them? was tempted to put some cash on my post office credit card and use that, but seems i might be breaching rules by pre loading some cash (was going to put £500 on it).... any advice? I won't really have internet access whilst away so can't really make intermittent payments to post office card....0

I don't think I would discuss my detailed financial matters with some stranger, who joined MSE over two years ago and has just got round to making a posting?
Not what I would call a track record.0 -
Hi, could one of the more experienced on here offer a bit of advice. We are off to Menorca soon for our sons very first holiday abroad and were looking at the prepaid mastercards as to avoid carrying too much cash around and the faff of travellers cheques. Can anyone offer opinions on the best ones to go for as all i can really find out about is the post office one ? I know if i spent ages hunting around on the net i would find it myself but with a little mister swinging off my legs its a bit distracting so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks0

For spending, try the Kalixa card, purchased via TopCashBack. Purchase and fund the card via Bank Transfer. You can also use it for larger cash withdrawals.
Otherwise, Travelex Cash Passport Globe ordered via TopCashBack or Quidco (if you have an existing Quidco account) is better.
Cashback website > Travelex > Globe card.
Be careful when loading the Prepaid card with any of these bank cards, as they may levy a 'cash withdrawal charge: Barclays, Lloyds TSB, Natwest, Santander or RBS. Co-op may charge too, but may refund if pressed(Simply because there is nothing in their T&Cs about this charge).0 -
Hello
I'm going to Istanbul in June and making my way via train/plane/bus to Krakow to fly back three weeks later. I'm wondering what my best option would be for cheap cash?
I'm going to be spending time in the following countries:
Turkey
Macedonia
Serbia
Hungary
Slovenia
Austria
Czech Republic
Poland
I have the halifax Clarity credit card and I also have a travelex cash passport for Euros. Is my best option to just withdraw cash as needed in each country, and maybe preload the cash passport with Euros? Or should I try and exchange a bit of currency here in the UK for each country before I go?

Hi Everyone!
I need some advice on the best card to use abroad
Basically in July i will be doing a charity event whereby we drive from the UK all the way around the Baltic Sea!!
google "mgb around the sea" to see our journey!
we will be passing through 13 different countries and i was thinking of pre-loading a credit card or similar with funds to pay for fuel and food etc...
occasionally some cash withdrawal will be required too
now i know my current debit and credit cards will sting me for fees so i need to get something that will cut the cost of transactions down significantly
we are travelling through the following countries so cards with just euro or dollar free rates will be useless
UK, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland!
anyone have any advice???!!
thanks in advance :-)

Hi,
I'm travelling to Bali and Australia for a year in July. I currently have a Barclays debit card but I am thinking I will need a credit card which is good for purchases and transfers? Can any one suggest the most affordable way for me to spend money out there?
Thanks!0
