  • I recently did a google search looking to purchase foreign currency and came across their site. After spending a while comparing rates I decided that I would purchase my currency with them as they had the best rate my miles than all the other companies I had been looking at.

I opted for the postage delivery and placed my order online for delivery 2 days later. It was a very simple process to follow and even had Live Chat to an advisor if you required help whilst placing the order, once I paid for my currency I received and e-mail from Convent Garden to say as soon as the bank transfer had been received they would order the currency and post it out to me the following day and then send another e-mail with the tracking number if I wanted to trace it at anytime. This was then also followed up by a telephone call from them to me to confirm all details and arrangements for the delivery.

I was most impressed by the personal touch of the follow up phone call confirming details and also liked the fact that it was so simple to use their site and place an order. The whole process of me placing my order and receiving my currency was less than 48hrs. But the excellent customer service did not end there. After receiving my currency I contacted Covent Garden and asked them if they could break down the order for me as I had grouped together with friends and needed to know who much each of us would get in Czech Koruna for our UK Pounds. I was really pleased as within 2 hours they had returned an e-mail and provided all the information I needed.

Covent Garden should pride themselves on their excellent customer service and the fact that they go the extra mile for their customer as this makes such a big difference with the consumer and I must say that from now on I will only be using this company and will inform my friends and family to do the same.

Well done Covent Garden FX what more can I say than Great Rates and Great Company and I look forward to doing business with you again.

When you are in a hole carry on digging:

    Where did you go ?

    When did you go ?

Was it business, pleasure or both ?

How much did you spend ?

What rates did you get ?

What are your thoughts on the legal protection available in the foreign exchange business ?

wow, this is a long thread & I have to say, not super clear to me - clearly a bear of little brain :-(

We will be in the US in summer for almost a month. Ideally I will get cash out in lumps perhaps weekly, and use credit card for most purchases.

We bank mainly with Santander, have a Tesco credit card and also access to a flexaccount (but not with 750 pcm paid in...).
Don't think any of those offer free cash withdrawals.

Just had an invite to the AA Travel currency card which looks like just the job for getting cash out at ATM's, although only talks about Euro or Sterling version.....& no details on this site to help me with that one !

I suspect I should apply for a Clarity credit card for the duration.....although since we get Tesco Clubcard points (& make good use of them!) taking a 2.75% "exchange load" should still leave us just up on the transactions.

Anyone confirm my befuddled thinking here ? Appreciate the help, it is a confusing set of options here !!!

(update!) looks like Metro Bank might be a good way for the no-charge foreign transactions....might open an account next time I'm in London!
    Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!

I wouldn't recommend the CaxtonFX travel card!!! I applied for this supplying all my personal details, then I was asked to send scanned documents with even more personal data. Later, I was told that I had not passed compliance checks and my application was rejected, but with no explanation. I rang to enquire for more information, as there could be absolutely no reason why my application should not be accepted. The first time I rang I was cut off and then when I rang back, the lady at the other end of the phone refused to speak to me.

So, nothing to do with the card itself at all.

Considering using the Sainsburys Credit Card for cash withdrawals in Portugal - does anyone know if the cash machines charge a fee for withdrawing money from another bank (I know they do in the USA)?

Also, whats the best way of changing money back into sterling - have used internet companies when purchasing currency, but how do you use them to sell your money back and what's the best way?

    Thanks

Probably something to do with your name and address as checked against a Mickey Mouse web site used as anus protectus due diligence against accusations of money laundering.

I have similar problems because my postal address cannot be the same as my legal local authority address.

It looks like Nationwide Debit card holders are charged a 2% commission and a flat £1/withdrawal fee when used in Europe as opposed to 2.5% (£3min) + 2.75%/mth interest with their Credit card. So it looks like the Debit card works out cheaper.
Anyone had any recent experience of using these cards?
