I am about to start travelling twice a week and want hand luggage only, but can anyone advise what largest size ppl tend to get away with?
I read above "Large rucksacks", which would surely contravene the hand luggage rule, but do ppl actually get away with this nowadays?
ThnxFriendly greeting!0 -

I normally carry a 40 litre rucksack which is about the maximum size allowed, but I always leave a bit of 'squidgeability'** just in case.
** if it was full of baked beans, it would probably be too big (not to mention hernia-inducing), but clothes and other stuff can be 'squidged' to fit the frame they use to check dimensions.0 -
I'm travelling with easyjet on Saturday and had also wondered if a small wheely case would be allowed, relieved to find out that it is as I hadn't wanted to check in any luggage. Does anyone know if a suit bag would be allowed as hand luggage?0

If you can get it into a space 55x40x20cm then yes you can take it as hand luggage0

A suit bag isnt not classed as hand luggage and by that i mean you can take on a piece of hand luggage AND a suit bag ( as extra as they dont see it as an item of hand luggage i prosume)- Ive done this many items before and had no problems.beautyqueen wrote: »I'm travelling with easyjet on Saturday and had also wondered if a small wheely case would be allowed, relieved to find out that it is as I hadn't wanted to check in any luggage. The only thing i find annoying is that you can only take one item of hand luggage going from the UK (I usually pop a folding bag in my case and once through security put my purse etc into my handbag).
Its a different story flying back from Valenica, there you are allowed a handbag and a carry on case.

There is no legal/regulatory maximum on the amount of hand baggage that you can depart the UK with. The limits are set by each individual airport and/or airline. Unfortunately UK airports have not, or will not, invest in sufficient security scanners and/or staff so restrict what you can take through. Also the budget airlines like to keep carry on to a minimum so that you can be charged extra for checked baggage.0 -

Can you clarify if that has been with Easyjet and when/where? Definitely not the case a couple of months ago in Krakow with them.0 -
About 18 months ago I took the time to hunt round the luggage shops with a tape-measure to find a bag which as close to the max dimensions as possible and was well worth doing
I got a lightweight case with minimal frame structure that's pretty much spot on the sizes - it doesn't need to be mega strong when it's only me handling it (and not the 1,000th case being tossed onto a belt by a bored handler) so gives me more space and keeps the case weight down for where a 10kg limit is imposed.
Means I can just pack it everytime and know it will fit fine - it slots straight into the check cages (and they actually seem to be slightly generous).
Just beware, some brands now label cabin-friendly cases but work to the international maximum standard - RyanAir/EasyJet and many others are slightly smaller - most typically 40cm depth instead of 45cm - best to measure yourself.
Serves me fine for most short trips - if there's a few of us and we'll have too much luggage (trip too long/people who can't travel light/etc.) then we'll share out the cost of a hold bag and overflow whatever we need to into it
Try and travel wearing/holding a thick jumper if you're taking one as they take up a load of space - or pack it on the outsides so you can squeeze it and protect your contents if it's a tight fit!
Does annoy me though when I see people climbing on board with cases that are blatently too big and haven't been checked (or whoever did didn't care) - the amount of hand luggage that gets crammed into the cabin now on budget airlines is scary!0 -
Hi, If you book with Easyjet then there is a baggage allowance (I think its 20kg). I booked with them and noticed there was no weight restrictions but when I got my confirmation and it said 20kg!! As long as the bag fits the dimensions given and you can put it in the locker yourself then your ok. Hope it helps
