Hi all,
I am also going to be studying DD100Really looking forward to it.. I work full time so looking forward to something to take up my evenings!! I have applied for financial help and so am in the process of getting the finance forms all sent off!! Hopefully will be getting started soon!!
Really looking forward to the course but also a bit nervous! Would love to know how everyone gets on! I was thinking of maybe doing a bit or reading up before the course starts, can anyone recommend any good reads?
Hi lucky_me :hello:
I bought the two books which were recommended in the very small DD100 prep book that I received a couple of weeks ago Social Sciences: The Big Issues and Good Essay Writing. I've only read the first chapter of the Big Issues and flicked through the Essay book so far so I can't say how good they are but the are both OU books. Good luck with the financial help - they're pretty quick and very helpful so you should hear back very soon.
Good luck with your studies too, There's three of us here now doing this course so we can all egg each other on! Please keep in touchwelshmoneylover wrote: »Hi all,

Hi welshmoneylover :hello:
I'm hoping to enrol on DB123 in May 09 as the two courses I'm doing this year end in June so I'd only have a 6-8 week overlap. I may re-think that when I'm actually doing these two courses though :rotfl:. BU130 looks interesting. I hadn't looked at that one as I'm not working at the moment (SAHM). My problem is almost every course I look at looks interesting and I want to enrol. I think I'm addicted before I even start!
I think it's probably my age or something, but I don't log on to First Class very often. I nip in and check emails and posts and then log off; I should really spend some more time figuring it out as I think it's probably a very good resource that I'm missing out on!
I'd be very interested in how you get on with the DB123 and how you find the workload for it. Would you be able to keep me updated with how you are getting on please?
:hello:slick-chic85. My children are g10, g8 and b6 and it gets chaotic sometimes but it fun too. My eldest thinks she's 18 too, but not in a good way sometimesShe thinks I'm mad for doing Maths, but she enjoys English and Science more. Got a reasonably quiet weekend as she's away with my mother at the moment so I'm down to 2 (fewer arguments :j) and they're in the garden playing swingball atm. Off to take them on a long walk with the dog soon so they sleep nice and early tonight so I can get some study done (OH on lates this week
)
Good luck everyone - not long now:j

:hello:all!
I've done a little bit more of the Unit 0 of the Maths course - I'm about 1/2 way through module 2 now (ratio, proportion and percentages) and I'm managing the questions fine, but I'm working them all out backwards (or so it would seem looking at the answers with the 'appropriate' working) . In a bit of a quandary as I'm getting the right answers, although I'm sure you are marked on your working out too, so I think I shall have to learn what I think of as the 'reverse' way of doing it (for reverse, read 'correct' :rotfl:).
Struggling a little to fit it in at the moment as we're over half way through the hols and the children are starting to get bored now. My youngest was up and down the stairs til 11 o'clock last night so didn't get any time at all to myself yesterday. My eldest is doing her 11+ at the end of next month so we've been busy practising for that. I feel quite bad as it's stressing her out a fair amount, but I've tried to make it fun (as fun as studying for an exam can be!) and it'll all be over in 6 weeks.
Not long til your course starts now, slick-chic! I've got to wait until 4th October for my first 'official' start date. Must be really strange having a quiet house - I've completely forgotten what that is like! My mum never takes all three away; she'll take the girls for the weekend, or my youngest over one night, but never all together. She doesn't really 'do' children!
Congrats on the funding welshmoneylover - I read on another thread that you'd got the go-ahead, excellent news. Good luck with the courses you have chosen.
lucky_me :hello:. Did you find those books? I still haven't spent any time on them. Must add that to my to-do list (which gets longer each day). Have you had any info for DD100 yet? I've only rec'd the reading and note-taking book so far. IIRC the rest should follow later this month. Must have a look on the website as there is a materials despatch link there which says when it's all due to go out (something else for the list ).
13 days of school holidays left and then I can start properly!
How's everyone else doing? Any updates?

According to open.ac.uk, the next materials despatch for DD100 is 12th September, and for MU120 is 19th September, so a little while to go before I get anything else.

Hi HomeSpun,
Sounds like you have been very busy!! Thank you for the useful information about the despatch dates!I am still waiting to hear back about my funding but fingers crossed will hear back by the begining of September
I have searched for the books on Amazon and will definately be purchasing both, just waiting for payday to come along! I may even wait until I am enrolled with the OU as I can then get an NUS card and some discounts hopefully?..0 -
:hello:lucky_me
To get the student discount with Amazon, you need your PI (Personal Identifier from the OU, something like RXXXXXXX with the X's being numbers). Then you need to go here and chose the OU, enter your PI and upload a photo (hence why I haven't done it yet). You then pay your £10 and the card gets posted to you. I think I saw somewhere that you have to go through the NUS extra site to get to Amazon to get the discount, so no cashback. The discounts aren't as good as they were last year, quite a few companies that used to be on there aren't now.
The OU do do their own card too, but there aren't any online discounts from that, I believe. I'm pretty sure it's an acceptable card for in store discounts though, and it's free :j. To get the OUSA card, you need to send a passport picture with your OU PI on the back and a stamp to:

Both are valid for a year.
As for being busy, my darling son () is still bu$$ering about and won't go to sleep. The urge to brain him is becoming overwhelming :rotfl:. Still, in about 1/2 hour, or so , when he is asleep, I'll go check on him and it will all melt away as he'll look like a little angel!"I married beneath me, all women do." - Nancy Astor 1879-1964

Hello
I'm also about to start the DD100 course in October. I'm a bit nervous as this is the first course I have done in 8 years since completing my A-Levels but I am quite excited as well. I have got my login email address and password and welcome pack today and the preperation booklet the other day too. Just preparing myself to get motivated!Money Saving convert!!:j0 -
Aww thank you so much for all of your help HomeSpun! You have been excellent
When I get my number (hopefully hear back from them next week) I will be ordering those books
Really looking forward to starting the course :-) not too long now! Also looking forward to the many discounts
Ibizavic - Good luck with the course! There are quite a few of us doing this course. This is also my first course and I am feeling a little nervous about it, everyone on this board is so helpful and friendly though0
