Just bought a Panasonic DVD recorder from Costco, on offer at £183. Cheapest on the net was £203+p+p.

Got some DVD ram discs, 10 for £12.21, £13 for one in Argos.
Also bought a tv in there a few years back, was £1150 in high street stores plus £150 for warranty. Costco was £780 including 3yr warranty.... no brainer really.

  • Another area that Costco were good is for returns - no fuss

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
  • no i dont walk around with my eyes shut but compare cost-co to makro and makro wins all the time IMO.

the only good deal i did get from was a memory card for my camera

Makro is rubbish....customer service is appallling

In the Reading store you can walk straight in through the exit (past the optician and membership desk) to the "cafeteria" without showing a membership card, nor do you need a card to buy your food.

The range of food available is very small and the term "cafeteria" is a bit grand, but the portions are huge and prices very low. A Jacket potato filled with Tuna and a refillable fizzy drink (help yourself to refills and straws) comes to a total of £1-85, not quite big enough to feed a family of four, but not far off.

    - I never get in when im thinking of joining always seem to get stopped by one of their single braincell security guards.....

"Hi can you direct me to the Customer Services desk", "no, you cant come in without a card...you need to go to Customer Services to get one"...dur!....I never seem to find anything to justify the membership.....food is no good unless you like eating processed crud everyday (same goes for Makro and all supermarkets...food in this country is so sh*te)

I really have to say that I don't see where you get this from. The meat quality is as good as a traditional butchers and things like the burgers and sausages are the best I've had anywhere. The general groceries are much the same as other stores. However, considering they also sell some of the 'better' brands you have an excellent choice.

To my mind Costco is where I go when I want quality goods. Again, just my couple of pence worth on the quality issue.

On the issue of returns, they really are very very good even when it comes to returns for goods bought in Costco USA.

Someone mention a single braincell security staff, however in Edinburgh I have to say that all the members of staff are great. All very helpfull and pleasant to deal with.
... and that's all I have to say about that.
