I feel dirty. I went to try on dresses and found one I really loved, and it's way more expensive than I would like. But now I don't know if I can bring myself to order from China. I really liked it.

    I hate myself...

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!

You could see if a local dressmaker could copy it for you. If you really love the dress then as someone else has suggested perhaps you can cut back elsewhere?

I just had a thought - when are you getting married? Was it in your size? If it's not a brand new style the shop is likely to have a sale shortly as there are new dresses out and they may have to make room...............

You could always be really cheeky and ask them if they would accept an offer on it or when their sale is :o

I was just going to suggest the same as paddington, ring around local dress shops and see if one has a sample in your size they're willing to sell to you, I got offered a sample about £300 cheaper than getting an original in the first shop I tried dresses on in... It wasn't 'the' dress though so I declined...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • It's a Mark Lesley design. They are pretty new to the market, and there are very few stockists. The lady in the shop said it was new, and whereas normally they'd advise ordering by Sept for designs out now, she said I'd probably be safe until November. So it's unlikely to be on sale anywhere.

    Trust me to do that!

I probably could afford it, but it totally goes against everything I've been saying for the past 2 months.

I didn't think the dress was that important to me. I'm sooo cross!

    Grrrr.

Maybe somewhere will have a designer day...

Hi, hate to state the obvious, but phone round other stockists in your area or where you'd travel to (maybe even some you wouldn't). The dress I wanted was £200 cheaper in one shop than in the other stockist - and they were only about 10 miles apart.

click here >>>http://www.marklesley.co.uk/stockists.html to find stockists in your area. Don't assume that because one company is charging a lot that they're all charging the same amount. They want your biz:j

I've just had a look at the website as I'd never head of him and his designs seem to rely very heavily on beading and detail.

TBH although Landy does a fantastic job and my dress is gorgeous if you've fallen in love with one of the intricate designs I think you run a good risk of being disappointed with a copy.

Try ringing round and fibbing if necessary to see what you can beat them down to even if you have to travel a bit.

  • Thanks for the advice everyone.

There is not a single ML stockist in Bucks. I went to one of the two stockists in London.

The prices of the other gowns in the shop (I went in to try on the AA dress I liked on paper and was prepared to order from China, but decided I wasn't so fussed with it on) seemed to be pretty competitive. I will investigate, but I'm not expecting to get it cheaper. And their sample was about 2 sizes too small, so I don't think I'll be buying that any time soon.

I'm going to keep looking at other dresses anyway. Something else might take my fancy. I don't get married until next June, so I have time on my side.

I plan to go to a fair few wedding shows and sales over the auumn, so it's not over yet!

If you don't mind point us towards which design you liked and someone might have seen something similar somewhere - I found that they all started looking the same after a while.....................:o

LOL I thought it was just me!!! :rotfl:

The lady at the 1 bridal shop I went to said that the embroidery etc on most dresses is from a standard pattern :P I hated trying on dresses - so only went trying them on at one shop. Then ordered from Landy :j

Why don't you contact them direct? They may be happy to sell to you at cost - if you don't ask you'll never know......
