I'm quite happy to buy my clothes in charity shops where I can also get junk jewellery, linens, even some Christmas presents, but I absolutely will not buy second hand shoes  . Perhaps this dates back to the days when we caught all sorts of things from swimming pools etc..but even in shoe shops if there's the slightest scuff mark on the sole they go back on the shelf!

Another where it is meat/eggs - get locally sourced butcher meat and free range eggs - would rather have less of both than knowingly support battery farming. Don't eat much in the way of pre-packaged stuff for the same reason. And the dogs get Naturediet (bought wholesale in bulk) as everything else gives them the squits! And we have decent instant coffee - but again don't drink that much at home!

My biggest one would be facial skincare I guess (Liz Earle or Clinique) as cheaper ones make my skin flare up. I buy LE seconds on eBay though, and Clinique when on Bonus Time. If I absolutely had to give it up, I would but at the moment I'd rather cut back elsewhere.

    Foodwise, the usual I guess:
    • Freerange eggs- I'd rather go without than eat battery
    • Strong cheddar, but I'm a brand tart and buy what's on offer
    • Coca Cola- I wouldn't drink cheap stuff bit very rarely buy it anyway
    • Fairy liquid- anything else is a false economy IMHO as it doesn't last as long as Fairy
    • Activa yogurts- they are pricy but OH and I both love them
We don't eat meat, if we did then I'd only buy free range...

I have had another think and want to add to my list:

I cannot live without Lidl Cloudy Lemonade at 39p for 2 litres Nor can I live without Lidl ice cream sticks (like Magnum but cheaper and better) only £1.89 for 6.

I justify using Demalogica because I am allergic to everything else. I don't smoke and I don't drink:rolleyes:

I won't scrimp on meat from my local butcher or veg from the local farm shop. I buy seeds and am in the process of growing my own on my tiny balcony. Maybe I shall start doing what my mum does and that is buy meat, veg and eggs from Hewell Grange Prison (they grow and breed their own there).
  • Must admit, I'll quite happily try anything, and if money is real tight I'll cope with lower grade items such as mince (value isnt all that bad)...
Eggs we dont use too often so we can afford to buy better ones when we do...

Only thing I refuse to scrimp on is cheap supermarket mass produced tea and coffee. I work in the trade, and have had to try most of them. Including some well known brand names, they're still not decent grade.... I'm a loose leaf tea drinker, snobbish maybe but if I didnt work in the trade I would be none the wiser, as is how we all develop our loves for certain products...

i.e if you'd never had Heinz baked beans, you wouldn't know what you did have wasn't as good IYSWIM....
