    Dentyl PH mouth wash
Mature cheddar v plastic "mild" stuff
    China tea set
    Nice glass to drink from

I'm lucky - I've inherited both a taste for the above [barring the DentylPH ! ] and also the remains of enough china and glass for me to use [parents both died, both had inherited stuff] as well as small amounts from wedding 20-odd years ago. Lost the husband, kept the china etc. A girl has to have her priorities, after all!!

If I break a piece of glass/a cup etc, I keep my eyes peeled at the recycling site and/or eBay. Within a few weeks something suitable turns up, it's amazing! I don't have fully matching sets of anything any more, but what I have is enough.

Everything else is up for grabs on the substitution front
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D

    :hello:

Shampoo and conditioner (Molton Brown or Lush).

Skincare stuff as I've got THE most sensitive skin (Clarins or Elemis).

Expensive but products usually last two to three months, sometimes a little longer when I really eek them out!

Tea, coffee, cereals, meat, bread, butter ... Anything cheap and nasty is just, well, cheap and nasty! Yucky wucky!

However, I get all my fruit and vegetables from the local market and don't mind using supermarket-own tinned tomatoes and (kidney, butter, etc) beans when making stuff with mince.

Free range eggs. I shop around for the best price free range, but won't (knowingly) buy battery... And this is the one thing that I can very rarely find "on offer".

That's not to say that I don't have lots of other "won't give ups"...I don't like cheap meat, I like Douwe Egberts instant coffee, Persil washing liquid, Dentyl mouthwash, Napolina tomatoes, the list is endless - but all of these are usually to be found yellow stickered (in the case of the meat) and on offer (BOGOF, 3 for 2, rollback) in the case of the others, and thanks to the internet (I regularly compare prices weekly in various supermarkets, and will happily walk to the nearest appropriate one to take advantage of the offers) I am confident that I snap up all available bargains, and stockpile bargains where necessary. (Colleagues at work laugh at me for knowing price differences and where to shop which week for various items, family and friends tend to use me more as a resource so that they can also take advantage of offers!). My cupboards are full of "brand" names, but very little of it is bought a regular prices... ;)

That's not to say that I am not also open to "down-pricing"... I am more than happy to "try before I condemn" and I am happy to admit a certain addiction to Lidl's 29p bars of milk chocolate... :p

and there isn't just ONE thing I can't do without...
ECOVER washing powder (but 'diluted' with Borax and Soda Crystals 1:3 and only a small scoop used in each wash :j)
    ECOVER dishwasher tabs
but these are both bought in bulk from local "Christian co-operative fair trade give 'unfortunates' a chance type place"
    and free-range eggs of course...
HWTHMBO insists on Shredded Wheat - although I've never seen anyone else make alternates:confused:, and Aquafresh (three stripes) toothpaste.
I am weaning myself off Dove silk body wash atm....:o

I love your thinking, the dairy industry is so barbaric sometimes :o

Unfortunatley there are "battery hen" products in so many items these days. Look at the ingredients of food these days, egg features so highly in most and unless it says free range it is not (fair play to M&S as they only use free range eggs in all their products, I wish others would do the same...).

I would rather be in debt/starve than buy these products that promote animal suffering. That is just the way I am :o

For free range egss, I go to a farm in the next village - £1.40 a dozen; think that's cheaper than supermarket. Anyway I like to do it - I always save my boxes too and take them back.

I keep my horse on a friend's farm and the few chickens there lay eggs but I feel funny about eating them. Stupid I know... I like it best when the chicken makes a nest in an out of the way place we didn't notice; next thing a little family of chicks appear.
