    Arrived in Weymouth, Dorset today
  • It would appear this company is run by a guy called Peter Farnell who lives in Brentwood, Middlesex. He's also the director of (surprise surprise) Corporate Fitness Solutions Ltd. The guy is only 30 and so probably trying his hand at being a scamming little g*t.

The best thing to do is contact the Advertising Standards Authority, fill in a complaint and post the letter to them to deal with. If enough people do it, they should get stopped. Trading Standards don't usually bother to investigate as I found out with another local postal scam, so try the ASA. They'll be more likely to stop it properly and maybe even impose a significant enough fine to get this idiot to stop.
  • reached the south east coast now, in Whitstable Kent and received same compliment slip but phone no. 01795 570008 not going to phone after reading this site info Thanks
  • Also received this SCAM, confirmed by the police in Kent: We received a letter with just Mr/Mrs (no name added). My wife phoned themto enquire. There is a place "round the corner" (Unit B,Tyler Way, Industrial Estate, Swalecliffe, near Whitstable) They could not confirm the postcode (really? How do they know the place then?). They offer a prize of a free gym membership. This is urgent because the expiry date is next Monday 21 March 09. So quick, sign up, you can enter your husband too, but he will have to pay a nominal fee!Bring in some identification with you
The husband phoned the police to have it confirmed that this is a SCAM. Do not phone them, do not go there (or anywhere advertised by Survey UK, Matters Consulting Ltd t/a Survey, Victoria House, 1 Gloucester Road, Cheltenham, Glos, GL51 8LN. And expecially DO NOT bring identification.

My council gym is perfectly alright not to ask for this identification. Tthe SCAM needs this to operate so they can open in your name a bank account, credit card, and others. DO NOT TRUST.
I read on a neigbourhood watch that what they do is to get information so they can open a bank account in your name and use your money! That's what they are interested in, not your health!
  • Many thanks to the OP for this really useful post. I received one of these this morning (Middlesex). I too thought it was suspicious and googled the company name and the first thing brought up was a link to this page. Wonderful MSE and its membership, as ever. This is going straight into the recycling bin now.... what a waste of their time and resources!
  • Hi just received one of these letters in the Scarborough area luckily your thread helped me to realise it was a scam.
  • Got this through the post yesterday, and rather (no evidence on the contraray) stupidly gave them a call. It did seem too good to be true, but I gave it a call anyway, to see what they had to offer.
Anyway, sure enough it was a gym membership. Now, the funny thing is, I've been to said gym, and my house mate knows one of the owners, so it didn't seem all that bad, till I googled the phone number this afternoon.
Now, my question is, they have my phone number, and no doubt the reference number on their compliment slip was cross referenced to their paperwork and some how to my house number... is this going to cause any problems for me and how can I stop this?
Also, is it worth mentioning to the owner, who (fingers crossed) may not be aware that her business is being used in such a scam??

Sweeping down through Somerset now. My parents received it yesterday addressed to mr & mrs AlleBayedOut, but no initials. A very local number on it. I only wish they had enclosed a SAE and I would have gladly sent them some cat crap.
