I have just bought that potato ricer from Lakeland as my son will not eat potatoes if they are lumpy at all. Bit of a faff to start with and quite a big piece of equipment but gives wonderful results. Well worth investing in one.0 -
Remember it's OK to slightly overcook the pots - actually, it helps if you do. I boil them until they're falling apartWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

OK, looks like i'll have to buy a ricer then. I have a Bruan handheld thing, thats more of a blender I suppode, and don't think putting it in the food processor would be very good. Ho hum, time to buy a ricer, thanks y'all.
ps- I put my back into the mashing, I'm no olive oil- muscles like Popeye, Thans ya'll, for your help.RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

Hi I have to admit I use the electric whisk as well. Whatever you do though don't put it in the food processor! My brother did this once and it ended up this weird gluey mixture - couldn't eat it.0

Cut your potatoes smaller and about the same size. It only takes one underdone spud to ruin your mash!!
 SwampyExpect the worst, hope for the best, and take what comes!!:o0 -
I get my mash lump free with just a masher and then a fork. Then add lashings of butter and a touch of milk. If I had Royalty coming for lunch I would push it through a sieve with the back of a spoon just to be sure0

I think there is already a few threads on this on the OS board so I'll move this over there and the BGs on the OS board will be able to merge your thread with the ones already going
