Spend the money on a masher with a strong handle and a grid type mashing surface (not the ones that look like zig-zags etc), my one cost me £6 and is the best one I've had.
Put some butter and milk in a cup and heat in the micro for 40seconds to soften it up. Drain the tatties when well cooked and pour in milk and butter before mashing hard.
For extra tasty mash add a teaspoon or two (according to taste) of wholegrain mustard......yum!!!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Peel potatoes and chop to to equal size. Steep in water. Rinse. Bring to boil from fresh cold salted water for 20 mins. Mash with butter and splash of milk, nutmeg if you've got it.0

I don't, but my husband uses a potato masher
Is there another way?A potato masher only does one job (in this house anyway) but is indispensible for that job.

Hi Penny
My potato masher has a dual purpose. I do my poached eggs the old fashioned way in a saucepan and its perfect for lifting the egg out of the water onto a sheet of kitchen paper
