Electric whisk, large bowl, Good floury pots (king edward..etc) warm milk, butter, salt and freshly gound pepper. i find that a ricer lets the mash go cold. Think Delia uses a whisk also0

I use a masher if it’s just for me & OH – we’re not fussy about lumps. If someone is over for dinner I’ll mash first then whisk to get the lumps out. I can’t make lump free mash with just a masher.
I actually have two mashers. One is like a bent, rounded fish slice and is useless as it bends more as you press down on the potatoes, the other is shaped like a stirrup with a zig-zag shaped bar across, IYKWIM. Which doesn’t bend but is also useless as it doesn’t squash the potatoes well – the lumps can escape. What is the best kind of masher to have to avoid lumps?
The bent fish slice masher is not used as a masher but as a bacon press – to press bacon into the pan to make it really crispy – and also to press the flour into my storage jars – the little holes let the air out - & I can make 2kg of flour fit into a 1.5l jar.

hello all. Having my nan for christmas dinner, she's coming to my house I mean!! What I yearn for is Lump free mash. Whenever my dad mashes they're lump free, yet when I mash- using the same kind of masher and spuds, I end up with little lumps. Would get myself a ricer as they look the job but there must be a way, a way to lump free mash. Please help o wise ones!RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

I use an electric whisk
Absolutely no lumps that way.

Yep, bit of butter & milk then, as Tiff says, an electric whisk.0

The easiest way to get smooth, lump-free mash is to use a potato ricer. Quick, easy and idiot-proof.There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
