    Happy Shrove Tuesday everyone :hello:
So who is going to be having pancakes tonight?!

Thankfully, I was never a lover of pancakes so I'll be passing.

Now...if it was Shrove Crisp Day.....that would be different. :D

And for anyone that cares....I didn't drink the wine, it has lived to see another day. I'm better than Sweet is nah nah nah nah :rotfl:

  • Thanks for you link. Just also read this article http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/hypoglycemia.html its about panic attacks and low carb. I used to suffer with really bad panic attacks and now I don't have any.
There are at least 2 pathways by which low carbohydrate improves brain function Dr Larry McCleary goes into the brain function in greater detail but our brains IDEALLY burn ketones and burn glucose as a way of removing it from the blood, Because high blood glucose levels are unhealthy our brains will use this source first and store fat while doing so. But without the high carb intake the brain can return to the fuel it runs most efficiently and effectively on ketones. The time our brain grows fastest is immediately after birth so that is why mothers breast milk is so high in KETONE producing Medium Chain Triglycerides that you can also find in coconut oil. So the fewer carbs you eat the lower your blood glucose and the more willing your brain is to use the fat from fat cells and circulating as brain fuel. People also report fewer migraines while low carbing.

The other mechanism is because vitamin d status will inevitably be lower in people who eat wheat. Not only does the circulating calcidiol get locked up as fat is stored but also the raised inflammatory status wheat bran creates requires more calcitriol to be consumed thus lowering by around 50% the half life of D3. The lower your vitamin d status not only the lower your mood and feelings of well being but also the worse your cognitive function. Brains need vitamin d as much as they need ketones.

Well done WorriedJim on the trouser front LOL:rotfl:

Thanks Ted for explaining much better than me why my brian fog has lifted since low carbing....I have a brain again....well sort of!

Well done on those planning to give up something for Lent, thank you for joining me. Today is your last day of eating your 'banned' items so pig out ....bring on the peanuts! Then I shall be a good little angel until Easter Sunday :A

By the way it's a good excuse for my insistant workmates when trying to feed me carbs..."I've given up (insert today's carby treat here) for Lent" works a treat.
  • Day 8 for me:
    - Greek yoghurt with ground flax and chopped almond
    - Egg mayonnaise with romaine lettuce
    - 2 celery sticks filled with peanut butter (I love this!)
    - Grilled Halloumi and spinach

I'm going to a pancake party tonight (yay!), although I'm genuinely torn whether to use the low-carb recipe or not... reason being, although I feel fine now my legs still give way if I do too much exercise (e.g. running up three flights of stairs at work). I've got my poledancing lesson tomorrow and I'm moving up to the Intermediate class because I've been doing very well...

I'm very worried about suffering a repeat of last week when I fainted :( I'm going to need to work so much harder, so perhaps some savoury pancakes with wholemeal flour tonight would be just what I need..?

Thats wierd you should say that Badger cos the stairs at work really kill me now, I run up and down 4 flights all day long and have for the last 4 years but since low carbing my thighs really feel the strain, I've asssumed they haven't got a quick fix of sugar to burn so thats why it ahces....but walking and jogging I'm fine. Seems to be weight bearing excercises that I struggle with on low carb.

For me, I would say have a pancake seeing as it's pigathon pancake day and then work extra hard in your class tomorrow :D

    Hi, can anyone advise plz.
am still on induction but for future reference i was looking at pasta sauces which are a no no but by chance looked at tesco value pasta sauce and its 2.8g carbs per 100g 1.8 of which sugars, is this ok as i thought anything under 5g per 100g was ok, oh and fibre is 3.9.. thanks in eager anticipation:j

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can have with a homemade low carb chicken curry? Obviously no rice but can anyone think of anything else which works?

Not tried myself but what about the cauliflower 'rice'
  • Hi everyone. I've been reading some (not all!) of this thread and I'd really like to start low carbing again. I followed the Carb Addict's Diet a few years ago, didn't lose much weight but I felt full up and healthier.

Now I'm looking at this Dr Dahlquist page. I'm a bit suspicious because it looks too easy! Can I really eat yogurt for breakfast, milk in my coffee, canned tomatoes in my dinner, any vegetable except potatoes? And I assume from what she says about ham, that I can eat any meat substitute (another veggie here) as long as it's under 5g per 100g?

Are there many here on that plan, and how are you finding it?
